For the Vintage Buick Fans. My grandfather had this very car. Same color. He would scare us to death when we rode with him. He promised me that I would get this car when I graduated high school. Sadly the car did not make it that long....

Bob,
The ride was like most of the big GM cars during this time. Very solid and somewhat plush.
The take off from standing was thrilling. My grandfather would always take off fast because the grand kids would scream like we were on a fair ride or something. He would laugh every time.
The sounds of the engine was awesome. I can still hear it. I remember the windows up, air on, and the growl of the engine.
The experts here would know...did this have the "Dynaflow" transmission? I can't remember ever hearing the gears change.
Fun! Good Memories!

did this have the "Dynaflow" transmission?

Nope, like the 4 speed hydros and 3 speed rotos, the Dynaflow was discontinued in 1964. This should have the Turbo 400 trans.

My Grandma Wilde had a 1966 Buick Special with the 327 Wildcat engine, 2 bbl carb. Even with just the 2 bbl carb that baby could move. It didn't have power steering or brakes, but it was a fun car to drive nonetheless, especially for a 16yo kid with a fresh drivers license in his hand. I could and did smoke those tires more than once. Grandma was so cool, she let me borrow it whenever Mom & Dad wouldn't let me have our 1981 Chevy Caprice.

That exact car. Exact color...

is the car I took my driving test with. It was my mothers. Being Buick dealers we always had a Riviera or Electra in the driveway. I seem to remember the car that we had before the Riv was a Buick GSX. Now that was a fast car!!!!!

Fun old cars, although, like the other manufacturers, GM KILLED the horsepower on all of its Big-Block V-8's beginning in 1972. Now, the '71 (with this same body style) Riv was a ROCKET!

If you really want one, there are plenty of 'em out there. I see them all the time in the Old Car Trader.

The Riv has always made my heart go pitter-patter. Until 198

I thought that the 4th(1974-76)and 5th (77-78)generation models were such a dissapointment. The styling wasn't what I thought it should be. I didn't start liking them till after 1978. My fav was the 82 Riv convertable. We had 2 of them. One was white and the other maroon (the only two colors it came in). I sideswiped a STOP sign within hours of having the maroon one. Thank god it was a company demo :-)

That is one of if not my favorite cars and how I always dreamed of owning one but I was only 15-16 when they came out. But I got the next best thing when I was 19, a brand new 75 Electra 225. The nicest car I ever owned and probably will have ever owned. I loved this car and will always regret selling it. In the pic is my grandma and my mom and the pic was taken in Stanley Park Vancouver 1976 when they came to visit me that year. How did I afford to buy it you ask? I worked 2 full time jobs M-F and some evenings and weekends at a disco. It wasn't given to me. It's the only picture of the car I can find :(

People used to think I was a bit odd back then but I always liked full sized luxo-boats. I wasn't interested in smaller sportier cars like the Mustang or Camaro/firebird stuff. As big as that Electra was and it really didn't seem all that big at the time it wasn't difficult to park. It was like driving a cloud down a marshmallow highway I always think

Sorry Guys

The only Buick I would own is the True Land Yacht from 1963 or 1964 Electra Deuce and a quarter Navy Blue with White Interior Convertable with the 455 Wild Cat Engine with I think at the time had 3-2 barrel Holley Carbs on that bitch !!! A fantastic piece of metal that could go from 0 to 70 in 8.5 seconds. (Nice considering it's weight was around 3500 lbs).

Love my Buicks as well

from my screen name u can tell I love a Buick, still regret selling my 68 225, and my 66 Wildcat both wonderful cars always wanted a 76 225 limtied as well
I drive a Buick now but nothing like my old ones its a 02 Park Ave parents just bought a new Lucerne, im not that inpressed with it

Boattail Rivs are a favorite of mine. The '72 in the C&D film is actually a pretty rare and sporty car, featuring the GS package. A little known fact about the 70-73 Rivs with the GS package - the top end was identical to the top end on the equivalent GS Stage 1 Skylarks. The GS Stage 1 package in 1970 is still considered one of the fastest production Muscle cars of all time.

A 8.4 0-60 time is pretty dang impressive for a 4500+ pound car, and this is with the lowered compression in 1972!
