Thanks to Lawrence(pulltostart) this 50 year old set made it’s way to southeast Texas this afternoon to live out their days in my wayward home for washers and dryers as Kenny(goatfarmer) likes to put it.

They are ‘72 models that were purchased in April 1972 and I got them from the grandson of the original owners. The washer was built the 50th week of 1971 and the dryer the 34th week of 1971. They came with all of the original paperwork.

Washer model 110.7214620G
Serial C15007416

Dryer model 110.7217620G
Serial M13402051

The same agitator as on our Kenmore 800. Very very nice set Melvin. Looks like the presoak offers 3 different soak lengths. Looks like the left side panel on the dry says fabric master and not soft heat. Very good, solid MOL well-featured set.

Thanks Bob and Lawrence. I wanted a set with this style of control panel and figured I better jump on these as this particular style was only built for a couple of years.

Nice Matched Pair Of 71-2 Kenmores

Nice save Melvin, I remember these machines well when they were new its nice to see such a well preserved matched pair.

True modulating Soft Heat Gas and Electric dryers ended production on Kenmores around 1969-70, so this dryer just has a one level 22,000 BTU gas burner.

The 9.8 Amp rating on the washer is a funny rating, this washer would probably never draw 1 KW, actual draw is probably in the 550-750 watt range. US washers and dryers use spilt phase motors and they are very durable but use a LOT of power, they do not even have a running capacitor on them, it simply was not a priory to use less power when it was only costing a penny or two in electricity to run a load of washing.

Current washers with their 3 phase motors draw only 1/3 to maybe 1/2 of the total power these older washers used AND the motors in new Washers almost never fail in spite of running up to 5 times faster.

Congratulations!

Great save, Melvin!  They are in great shape and it's amazing that you got them from the original owner, more or less.  May you have many happy washes!!

Thanks! At some point the GE motor that would’ve been on this washer was replaced with the Emerson motor with a capacitor. The self cleaning lint filter was the one known for flooding the house at some point and it is gone and bypassed but I will reinstall its replacement which were much better filters. The water pump is original and bleach is timed.

WOWZERS...

Those look to be in very good condition!
So happy they got saved & going to a good home!

Doing the HAPPY DANCE for you on this side of the computer.
WOOOOO HOOOOOO!
😃

Nice save - and a pair!  I bought this washer used from a shop in the late 80's, fixed the wig-wag and washed in it for a long time.  Mine had the softener dispenser screwed onto the agitator post.  Great washer, well featured for a mid-line model.  I always liked that flatter, plastic timer knob.
