I found this Oz made Simpson "84" the same day as the Westinghouse. I like the faux wood trim but i was also intrigued by this series of machines due to the shape and style of the "flying saucer" shaped gearbox.

The machine needs new seals (which are still available) and a gearbox overhaul, considering its been throwing a fair bit of oil...you'll see in the pic,but from what i can tell, the gearbox has not seized. Otherwise it looks in good condition. Aluminium lid will also need a re-spray.

We love these pictures!

These are very fun pictures to see. The Australian top-loaders sure are interesting to look at.

Hey Nathan and Yes Gansky..Maytag like

Hey Nathan,

As i said on msn...Yes..i'm happy i got this one, its closer to what i want. Just needs a little work.

Gansky: This is a 1974 model and Yes...some of the mechanicals seem very Maytag. It IS a helical drive design but i think the gearbox is an Australian design. Not entirely sure if the motor pivots, have not seen the mechanicals in action as yet.

Congrats!

What an awesome looking machine. Good luck with it. I hope that you get in up and running without too much trouble.

Thanks for the pics.

Congratulations!

What a great find! There are not many of this model Simpson around and I think it is a beauty! My Aunty Gwen had one of these machines. I love the seventies wood grain too and that sleek looking agitator. Notice this Simpson agitator has no flumes at where the shaft meets the skirt. Here is a later Simpson agitator to illustrate the difference!

I hope this one is a keeper.
