1974 Lady Kenmore Won’t Spin/Agitate

I thought the culprit was a bad wig-wag, so I bought a replacement and when I went to install it, saw that one of the things that slide back and forth on the cam bar is broken/disconnected. I have replaced wig-wags before, but haven’t done much more than that. What do I need in order to correct this? Do I need to replace the entire cam bar mechanism?

Thanks and sorry for so many recent inquiries. Am finally getting around to setting up my laundry center and am tackling my problem machines. Photos 1 & 2 are the laundry center (still a work in progress), photo 3 is my set of “problem children” that have been relegated to the main house garage (Maytag washer has a hole in the outer tub and a leaky fill valve, Maytag dryer has pulley problems, and the Norge and Frigidaire who knows what) and photo 4 is my 1984 LK set, also in the garage, and photo 5, my daily drivers in the laundry room.

Todd, it may just be the rivets have given out and caused the cam bar to detach from the plunger.  I had to replace the spin cam bar on 65 Lady K at one point; I'll look up the thread and hope I took pictures.  I remember having "fun" replacing the rivet...   Stay tuned....

I just rebuilt the gearcase on the 1984 whirlpool because it was breaking/bending plungers. Turns out the problem on mine was in the gearcase.

OK, found a thread for another cam bar issue; I posted a picture of the part from the PartSelect site.  I didn't seem to include the part number though (because I am a dumbass....)

If only the rivet pin is broken, not the plunger/guide, and no internal transmission issue is involved then a nail of suitable size (with a flat head) can be used as a pin, carefully bent to hold it in place.

Replacing A Wig-Wag Plunger

A cotter pin or nail will work but may not last long, only the original hardened FSP pin and clip will work if you want to use this machine much.
