I successfully changed damper pads and belts, leveled machine, and it still shakes on spin cycles. When i open machine at end, the drum appears to be canted forward and right. Will tightening the back/left spring fix it? Can anyone recommend a repairperson in the boston area who has the knowledge and interest to help me keep this machine running? Thanks!

Adjust the spring and then screw the feet of the machine in all the way. Then adjust if you have one foot that needs to be longer. That will help a great deal. You should always have the feet screwed in as far as possible to prevent vibration.

Spinning

If you operate the machine with the front cover removed, does an empty spinning tub vibrate?

Its a Maytag

It WILL shake and walk. They work best on a cement floor, My Mother bought one in 1986 to replace our old Frigidaire,We used it 2 years, no amount of leveling helped, it was always out of balance,I got a deal on one here a while back, I thought I would try a Maytag one more time....same thing, it walks all over the place.

You mentioned that you changed the damper pads.  Did you change them because the machine was squeaking during spin, or for good measure?

If the machine was already squeaking badly before changing them the damper may have been permanently damaged.

If the tub springs are adjusted correctly (which should correct the leaning tub) and the leveling legs are adjusted correctly with a leveled machine, your Maytag should be whisper quiet on a solid floor.

shaky Maytag

To answer Malcolm, I have not checked to see if the tub vibrates with an empty drum. What will this tell me ?

To answer Bendixmark, it's sitting on a plastic pan in an upstairs closet with a drain in the side of the pan. Should I change this out? It worked for years without issue in this situation. BTW you live so near me I wonder if you could take a look at it?

To answer Ben, I changed the damper pads because of the shaking and because I could see them coming off, and there was not ever any squeaking. Many thanks

If the tub shakes when the front is off of the machine when its empty, it will confirm theres an issue with one of two things.

The first thing to do is drive in all the legs on the machine, ie get it as low as you can to the ground. Then level it. After you run the machine for a minute on spin, see where the tub ends up as in if it sits to the left or rear. Depending on where the tub is leaning, you could adjust the opposite spring. If its leaning to the left, tighten the right spring.

still shakes

thank you to all. I will drive all the legs all the way in, re-level, and see which way the drum needs tightening.
Yes, I did apply the lubricant to the damper pads.
