1987 Whirlpool LA7800XS original timer part number

Hello everyone, I am new to this community although I have been following this website for more than 15 years.

First of all I want to thank the webmaster for admitting me to this valuable group.

My first thread is to clarify a question I have about my 1987 Whirlpool LA7800XS. Apparently the previous owner replaced the timer with one from another Whirlpool model from the same era.

The Regular, Perm Press and Delicate cycles are right where the control panel graphics indicate but the Extra Rinse, Soak and Pre Wash cycles apparently are not active in this timer. Additionally, during Regular and PP the motor does not change to slow speed at the end of the wash time nor does it do the brief Soak on Delicate.

I have searched the main parts websites (I don't know if I can mention which ones here) and the timer is still available but I know the part number is a current one and I am not sure if it is an identical replacement to the OEM.

If any of you have a list of parts with the original FSP part numbers, or know the part number of the original timer, I would greatly appreciate it if you let me know.

Welcome. The part number in a 1992 parts catalog for your washer was 3351744.

Another question, how popular was this model in the US when it was new? What price did it have? I bought it this year for $30 without the motor.

They sold them by the zillions....there's a mile-long plant along US Hwy 20 in Clyde, Ohio that has cranked these out by generations. This looks a little upper-middle in the product line. WP in the day was the largest washing machine manufacturer by far in the US (recall that Sears used them as their supplier as well)

Yes, in fact I knew about the plant in Clyde for the DD washing machines and also the plant in Marion for dryers and the final assembly of the laundry centers.

I also know that DDs are the most produced washing machines in history. I actually have 3: a Kenmore Elite 20952, a Whirlpool Thin Twin LTE6234DQ1, and this Whirlpool LA7800XS.

What intrigues me is how popular this specific TOL model was in the US because here in Venezuela they are very rare. The ones that were very popular were the LA7780XS.

As a side note I would like to comment that Whirlpool and Kenmore BDs BOL and MOL were assembled in Venezuela while Sears Roebuck was in the country until 1984-85. GE also assembled a complete line of FilterFlo here until 1995.

Venezuela is very interesting to me. I got to visit Caracas in early 1998 when I was working with BellSouth for a conference. Stayed in the Tamanaco InterContinental. Was amazed at the old American taxicabs used and the price of gasoline.

Later was working at GM when the GM plant in Valencia was expropriated. We were going to be extending OnStar to South America (replacing ChevyStar) but we excluded Venezuela after that episode.

Anyway, would doubt that that specific upper-end model was more than 1% of production. This was still the era (before buyout) of Maytag being the "higher-end" washing machine in the US/Canada and WP was trying to create KitchenAid laundry to compete.

Your comment about Venezuela makes me emotional.

When you came the first time in 98, although with some problems, the country was still prosperous and beautiful. Now it is not even the shadow of what it once was, although the majority of Venezuelans have faith that everything will change soon.

The InterContinental Tamanaco hotel was also expropriated, as were the InterContinental Del Lago and the InterContinental Maracaibo, both in my city, InterContinental Valencia and InterContinental Guayana. I haven't traveled to Valencia recently but just today someone told me that it looks like a ghost city.

Sure, I understand Maytag was still the Cadillac of laundry before Whirlpool ruined it. Sad. I wish I had been the age I am now in the 70s or 80s for so many reasons....
