2 Litton Microwaves.

No Litton did NOT invent the microwave oven. However, I did have a mechanical version of that Meal-In-One, purchased August 1978. It lasted for 22-24 years. Was the4 most even cooking, best microwave I've ever owned. Phenominal. Yep, turntables in microwaves are cheap design.

I asked this question a few weeks ago, I'll ask it again.
We still have our 1977 Litton Meal In One oven (model 412). It works but "somebody" put a pot directly from the stove on the glass plate that makes up the floor inside the microwave. The glass shattered. We have been unable to find a replacement. I think it's unobtainium.
Couldn't we just go to a glass shop and have a piece of tempered glass made to replace the piece with? Are there any radiation absorbing features of the original glass? Thanks!
Since Litton has been out of business for such a long time its not like you can write to them.

Allen, I think it would be ok. I think any wave reflecting properties would be contained in the floor of the oven itself. I think the loose glass tray phenomenon was something that came about due to reduced cost as well as making cleanup a bit easier as it was removable.

I know back in the late 70's a Litton dealer told me that if I ever broke the glass they have a kit where the glass would be removed and a teflon coated metal bottom could be installed in place of the glass. Then the oven would look like one of the newer Litton models. But even finding a Litton dealer now a days would be extremely difficult let alone one that has the conversion part.
The glass seems the easiest way to go.
