I found a Samsung gas dryer (not sure of model #, it's not in front of me at the moment) on one of my local (ish) Facebook for sale groups, listed as "Scrap Metal" for $40. Of course I had to read the listing, which went on to say it was being sold as scrap metal (but someone could probably fix and use at their own risk). The ad said it still ran and heated but made a loud thumping noise. It had been scheduled for service, but no one showed up, they called Samsung and they cut them a check and said go buy a new dryer. The warranty replacement required the seller to cut the cord and sell it as scrap metal only, not to be used. It was about half an hour away, so my Girlfriend and I jumped in the car and went. I'd already told the seller I would be repairing it to use, and he was totally fine with that. We got there to find a very nice neighborhood and a dryer that looked new. I wanted to hear it run to be sure it wasn't the motor or something else, so I spliced the cut ends of the cord together and plugged it in, hit start and immediately knew it was a bad roller. I paid the $40 without question and we loaded it in the back of my Prius, then chatted for a few minutes about cars (we both own Toyotas and love them). He said he would be in contact to see if I was able to get it going and we left. We had another stop to make, so didn't get home until late. I just unloaded it and moved it into the basement, and started digging in this morning. One bad roller, right rear. Quick trip to the appliance parts store and $21 later I had a new roller and shaft. Around 2 hours later, I had it running smooth and quiet as it should. Oiled all the rollers, cleaned out a slight bit of dog fur and lint, and it's like new (except for a blue stained drum from drying jeans... This dryer is pretty close to top of the line, something like 14 cycles, huge drum, steam, and it plays a cute little tune at the end of the cycle. Will be hooking it up to gas tomorrow and it will take the place of the slow, noisy, nearly 20 year old Norgetag Performa upstairs. For a total of $61 I think I did quite well. It seems fairly well built, and was actually much heavier than I expected. I will post pictures after it's been installed, I will have to raise the shelf above the washer and dryer about an inch, it's a very tall dryer. Rear control, window door, LED drum light that can be turned on during the cycle. Nice large, sturdy lint filter. Barely a scratch on the thing.
