I was going to post this in Jason's thread, but I decided not to hijack it at the last minute.

I have never had good luck with Dells (or Windows, for that matter). My old one had the hard drive crash a few years ago (lost everything), then a month ago my newer Dell had the RAM fry while I was logged on, so only my account was corrupted, and I lost all of music, videos, homework, bookmarks, pictures, game files, etc. I managed to get most of my music and videos off of my iPod though.

I know that I probably should have backed up everything regularly and maintained it on a more regular basis, so it was partly my fault, but on Wednesday my parents and I went to the mall and got this for myself (don't ask about the mousepad). After waiting almost 3 years, I finally have a fast, dependable computer in my own room! The printer came with it for free too.

I'm gonna install XP of Vista on it soon, but only for the copy of Office 2007 we already have and for a couple of games. The nice thing is that I can now spend more time enjoying my computer instead of maintaining it or waiting to use a computer!

Wow

That's an impressive looking monitor! and the keyboard looks pretty nifty too... Enjoy your Mac, everyone I've talked to loves 'em.

I've only ever had Macs, both at work and at home. They're super dependable (and considering the price, they should be!) and I understand Mac's phone support service is excellent, too. Not to mention how damn stylish they are...

Nice choice!

The best thing you could do for yourself now is to go to dealmac.com and buy yourself an external firewire hard disk, and let the machine use it as a Time Machine backup. You'll be glad you did next time the machine hiccups, or when you delete a file you actually wanted!

How do you feel about that keyboard? I have a wired one, and I kinda feel so/so on it. Then again, at work I use a circa 1988 ADB Extended Keyboard II on my Mac Pro.

I love the new keyboard, and I already have a 750GB LaCie d2 Quadra on order already. I was going to get Time Capsule because my brother also has a Mac, but we already have an Airport Extreme and I read the backups are painfully slow to do and to restore from, so I decided that mounting a hard drive directly to it would be better.
