That "'50s Range" in St. Louis is not badly overpriced. It's from around '72, and it represents the zenith of GE 40-inch range development. This one has all the virtues of earlier models, plus an oven window. It's still early enough to have the convenience outlets. The ad leads me to believe that the seller is representing that everything works, though of course I'd want to see the range to determine that for myself. If everything is working, including the Sensi-Temp, stack that $375 asking price up against the cost of a new 40-inch Frigidaire range, which has a design and build heritage that begins with Kelvinator and extends through WCI. The current MSRP on the base model in White is $1,699.

No Sensi-Temp, no convenience outlets, no cooktop lighting, no griddle or rotisserie or meat probe, and today's build quality, not yesteryear's. One thousand, six hundred ninety-nine dollars.

Does $375 look a bit more reasonable now? If you get one for less, that's great, but that doesn't happen every time. If I needed a 40-incher right this minute, I might well pay that for this unit if it checked out well.
