still play some of these every once in a while-many suffer from "old age"problems of foam pressure pads turning to dust and foil splice coming off.Bought my last new one in 1982,record clubs had certain titles on 8-track through 1988...Heyday of these tapes was ~1968-82,about the same era as "ye olde fayke woodgrayne"and the leisure suit :)

I remember thinking 8-track was so neat when I was growing up... Even though I had cassette, which was probably a better format in many ways.

I got a 8-track player (complete with fake walnut veneer) and a few tapes to play with once. It sounded pretty dreadful used with my good audio system. But it was amusing.

Here's a a story that amused me about an 8-track prank some teenagers liked.

Do not try this at home! LOL

Fun Stuff...

I bought a Magnavox Secretary Stereo from a guy a couple of years ago. He was moving and the $20 asking price was irresistible. The inside is packed with 8 tracks. It's covered up in my garage. One day I'll find a space for it (no easy task) and pop in a tape or two.

Featuring, a link to 8-Track Shack:

Different running order & sometimes (depending on how much/less you like the song, maybe what song) the songs divided into a Part 1/Part 2, are what characterizes this neat format--had my share & somehow mostly of ones that snapped while playing, especially orange-cartridges that were especially hard to keep permanently in my collection as much as those being the 1st to be thrown away...

Bought mine in the late-'80's as everyone was selling what was a truly dead format, while the players had their neat, characteristics, also one-of-a kind, but I settled for what was the last NEW one ever made, a Realistic from Radio Shack, that I wanted no more, but as a small auxiliary unit that just plugs into the stereo, even if the plastic Program button & system differed sonically from those metal ones--and finally learned what was meant by "Program" as I'd seen the players & tapes have, and learned (from a friend's, auxiliary, too, actually) how all that worked...

Enjoyed until the early-'90's, then my eschewing of cassettes followed, though I have a couple, one of which I can only get on that format (Steve Fisk), while a certain Bobby Goldsboro GREATEST HITS, I think also is an exclusive, of which the "third" of those, I'd briefly had, which I'd bought NEW off of eBay, broke, hence, reduced to a pair, as the used copy, I hope continues to run forever more... (Just fast-forwarded it, so I could play Side 2 of it, as the initial copy, took me a few minutes to realize that the leader tape broke off, right after it finished Side 1!)

never had one...

but one of my few memories of the Summer of '71 (as they say - if you can remember the late '60s & early '70s you probably weren't there!) is driving around during lunch break from my summer job at a paper warehouse in Linthicum MD in a co-worker's '70 Duster, windows down, stoned, his 8 track playing Jethro Tull's "Locomotive Breath" at full blast! ...oh to be young again!
