You mean the agitator shaft bearing is loose (not on the ball joint end but on the other end)? agitator shaft bearing

When dis connected the shaft had a little play in it, not much. You could also here it if you wiggle the agitator. It also makes a little knock while spinning, I assume it's coming from the agitator/shaft. I will try and upload a video later on in the day.
 
I sincerely don't think you have anything there to be concerned about.  Most of the Rollermatics I've heard (including my own) sound like this or louder in some cases.  Most 1-18's are definitely louder.  Others here may differ on my opinion however.  Phil is more attuned to the sounds than I am and can maybe provide futher advice.   Other members as well have taken to great lengths to sound insulate their machines.

 

Phil, by the way, while we are discussing these particular machines have you ever come up with a good solution to replace that darn ring nut that holds on the clutch?  All of them I've worked on always breaks the locking tabs off and then you have to mess with using Loctite.

I never had to replace one of the tabs on the lock ring, I was careful not to break tabs on mine and reused it without problems but I don't think I could have done it many times!

There's something that makes noise, I can see that the agitate roller isn't moving smoothly, it's hard to tell if it's what makes that noise or not. Look at the roller for a flat spot...

You can try to move parts manually while the washer is disconnected. If the ball joint, the acorn-shaped coupling above it, the agitate shaft bushing or the agitate arm bearing...

I moved the mechanism manually and it seems to be smooth with no noise. When in spin cycle it has a little bit of noise inside the wash tub... when you put pressure on the agitator the noise stops. Does this make any sense?
 
It could be the agitate shaft lower bushing that's a bit loose.

Here's a video I made of mine, I was moving the agitator (not up and down but from one side to another) to show the play in the agitate shaft bushing.

Mine is nothing like that at all. Mine just barely moves just enough to make some noise I guess. Is it normal for the agitator to make noise during spin cycle? ( knock sound )
 
I think the "lint-away" light was used on all 1968-70 washers that were pressure-filled.

I have never seen a machine which had that light (my only pressure-filled Rollermatic is a 1967 model).

I'm wondering when it comes on? Just during the overflow rinses? Does it come on during the overflow period of the "soak" cycle?

About the noise during spin, you should have a look at the agitate roller while the washer spins. If it bounces like in the agitation video, it could be what causes the noise. One of my 1-18 washers had a flat spot on it's agitate roller. It didn't make exactly the metallic noise your machine does during the agitation period but it did make a strange irregular noise during the spin period.

It can also be caused by the agitate shaft bushing. On my 1968 Gold Crown washer there was also some noise during the spin cycle before I replaced that bushing.
 
Congratulations, those are beautiful. I would be reluctant to use them more than than once or twice a month. I would have enjoyed seeing the rest of the doctor's vintage goodies.
 
Cool machines, but impractical by today's standards. Just can't keep using 50+ year old machines as daily drivers when there are no parts for them. Sooner or later they break down and you have nothing to repair them with. That is why I chose to join the 21st century and buy new ones for daily use.

I believe my grandparents had a version of these exact machines in the same color, the washer went out soon after I was born (I was born in 73) but I recall the dryer and have faint memories of the washer. Now I can finally know they were 69 models! Does anyone know if there were other versions of this model for 67 or perhaps have a catalog with a photo so I can see which set they had?

There was no exact version of this machine in the 1967 "L" line. This "N" model was made from mid-1967 to mid-1970. The 1967 models had lighter color control panels, either white or matched with the cabinet color. Black/Silver was used in the "N" and "P" lines. (the "P" models were introduced later as 1969 models in 1968 and were made at the same time as other "N" models).
 
just found and purchased

A junk 1-18.... the cabinet is junk but the mechanism looks to be in good shape with some other parts also... will the agitator shaft bushings interchange with a solid tub machine?
