When I was a kid, my parents had a Frigidaire Custom Imperial(?) dishwasher in lovely coppertone finish. It was built-in and the really neat thing was indicator lights across the front. It didn't have a dial, but a series of pushbuttons and then lights that lit up as the cycle progressed. Anyone have a picture of one of these or still have one in operation? I remember it had two chrome/stainless steel covered detergent cups which were black and a tower spray in the middle. It also had a small wares basket which my mom kept and used with two other dishwashers. Not sure why they got rid of it--I think the interior started peeling. Friends of my parents had an identical model--except it was avocado and a Monkey Wards model (Ward's Finest) Thanks for walking down memory lane with me.

I had one back in the day. There was an extra little spray-arm on the end of one of the main spray-arms.

The inside of my parent's first built-in looked just like model DW-CIMP featured in one of the above ads. The silverware basket broke through the bottom and the replacement came with yellow handle rather than an aqua. Not sure why I remember that, but I do. The control panel looked a lot like model DW-CIUT except no woodgrain trim. It was more of a hammertone/foil like design.

My aunt had the same interior like on the portable but it was built in. Only had one dial with regular and short wash. It was a decent cleaner for the time but nothing spactular. I really liked the loading pattern even with the tower which I never cared for in any dishwasher. I know the design was changed near the end before the wci disaster. If you look above and notice the cup shelf the way it was designed the cups always came clean. In todays models the cup shelves are useless they are always blocked and cups never come clean. Compaired to todays standards this was a tall tub for that time. My aunt always liked me to load it because I always got tons of things in it. Also in it's time this wasn't the biggest seller compared to kitchenaid or ge and kenmore d&m designs. But it sure was a unique dishwasher.

My Mamaw had the one on the far right.I thought the washarm was so cool and when you do the fluid dynamics of it it you get more water coverage.My Sister has a Smeg dishwasher and it has the to main wash arms side by side with small one attached to them also.That Frigidare cleaned very good a hell of alot better than any dishwasher out today save for the still out WhirlPool Powerclean.It lasted till about 1994 or so because they got another Frigidare which sucked at washing but D&M Machines never were great.

I had a Custom Imperial from 1977 for two years and it literaly fell apart from abuse by my so called room mates.When I went out on my own,I got Ward's top of the line,Signature made by FRIGIDAIRE.It had two choices of Sani Temp 150 and 160 buttons.The red light said "SANI" instead of 150 like the FRIGIDAIRES.

Interesting that the upper rack is still configured for the turbo wash cylinder.
