Left Thursday night for Bemidji to get these from Steven. Had a great drive up to Northern MN, which is so incredible if you have never visited. Got the machines Fri morning and headed home, stopping in small towns along the way. These are really in mint condition. The Washer dispensers have never been used, and everything functions perfectly. The dryer is electric, and was used more than the washer. Steven said he bought his house from a little old lady, I bet she had a wringer she used, and wasn't too interested in the "automatic!" In any case, here are some pics!

Another Lady joins the club...new for '71!

Don, congratulations!! This Lady looks brand new, like she just came off the showroom floor at Sears! If the dryer was used more than the washer, then that definitely shows there was a wringer in the household!

Does this machine have the Vari-Flex agitator?

Oops, didn't see the interior picture! Very nice, even the tub ring is spotless!! Definitely the mint find of August!

Don those machines are just incredible!! I thought that they looked good in the orginal pictures but nothing like they do now. Did you have to do much cleaning up on these. They are just beautiful. Will you be using these very often? Not sure how much space you have but I would bet that you are about out of room.LOL Congratulations and have fun with these. Terry

Wow Don they are just beautiful. These machines are becoming really rare now, so I'm glad they are being saved. They look like they are in great shape. Congrats again!

Hi Don,
Congratulations on your beautiful Kenmore set they look factory new
I wish you good health and many happy loads.

All the best.
Hugh

Thanks everyone for the nice thoughts.

Terry, I ran out of room a long time ago. Greg keeps telling me he is out of room, but somehow finds room for more, so I am trying to learn his secret! Actually there is a huge remodel coming my way this winter or spring, and we will see how much I have room for at that time!

There really are some nice changes from my 65 LK to 71. Cold wash is preset to 6 minutes on the 65, 14 on the 71. Cottons Linens Colored is at 14 minutes also, instead of 12. Gives you more flexibility with soak and prewash cycles, and water temps and wash duration. Not to mention the Vari-Flex agitator! I have passed up several of these before, but Bemidji is near and dear to my heart, and I was overdue for a visit!

BEAUTIFUL! Love the colored tags on the cycle buttons. The timer skirt looks like the same sculpted design as the advocado Kenmore 70 that my grandmother had, so I'm betting hers was a 1971 model.

Reminds me of......

My Grandmother's set that she had. I can still remember the smell of the washer filling as she was using "Scotch Buy" laundry detergent in the auto dispenser. If I am correct, don't you "pull" out timer knob to stop/change cycles, and "push" it in to start?

Tex

Don, beautiful and ecstatic you saved these. I'm sure you realize this, but I'll enlighten otherss that don't. The reason for the differences in your 65 & 71 LK is taht despite teh "appearance" the buttons on the 65 controled temps, it's an illusion. Yes the buttons "stopped" at the point in the timer for you to "select" that cycle, but it was still all driven by the increments on the timer. I found this out with the 64/65 LK next door by just studying some stuff. On the combo, the buttons only differentiated the awrm or cold rinse. On the 71, the buttons control more, hence the ability for whites & colors to have the longest washes for PP & Normal. As well as the cold wash on Normal. And the ability to have teh opt. cold rinse always. Does this year have the 2 minute detergent dispense time or the 4 minute? Also, I vaguely remember there was a separate button for knits (a 10 or 12 minute wash with a short soak period) and delicates? Ya gotta love the 30 minute enzyme soak, I wish I had it today for using my Biz. (PS, I'm actually more than a bit envious). In fact, this was the set that replaced teh 64/65 Combo next door--a 2-xstep process-first the dryer function went and then the washer. Those LKs were avocado.
