I’m going to try the “Mystery” scent when I’m running low on the Lenor Spring awakening. I’m sure the smell will be waaay to strong.. also.. did you notice the new Ariel Liquid? It says on The bottle that it’s got +30% the cleaning ingredients now or something like that. Will get it with the next Ocado shop

The new Ariel Liquid

No, I never noticed that.

I was toying with the idea of buying the 'Reduced to Clear' Persil Powergems: 12 dose @ £1.63, but I decided against it. I went to Aldi and purchased Almat bio powder instead.

Looking at the Ariel website, there seems to be a liquid 'Purclean' version, 70% made from plant-based surfactants.

oh yes, I forgot to mention that one! It’s got two more enzymes than the Tide purclean.

Also.. Persil has released a new “pod” detergent it’s called powercaps and looks a bit more like the Ariel 3 in 1.. a lot of new things to try :)

I suspect Power Gems maybe one of those once in a decade innovations that will be forgotten about rather quickly. They’re nothing like Megaperls from Henkel. Those new pods seem like a “me too” given that both P&G and Henkel have has multi-chamber pods for some time now. However, it’s welcome competition they drives things forward.

I’ve always been a big fan of Comfort Pure (a Unilever conditioner with a very low level of scent). In general I find most of those highly scented softeners and conditioners absolutely obnoxious. I also don’t really like the feel of Lenor on clothes. It just seems more “chemically”, even the lighter fragrances.
Comfort always struck me as a far superior product.

In terms of Unilever detergents I wish they would make a version of Persil Bio Small & Mighty liquid with the non-bio scent. It smells really nice! I don’t dislike the green bio liquid scent - it’s also very nice but I just think the non-bio is a really good scent.. I have no reason to not use enzymes though and find the Persil Bio S&M liquid performs extremely well.

I have also not liked the scents used in their pods to-date. They’re different to the liquid and way stronger and more lingering. Hopefully these new power cap pods aren’t quite so perfumed.

My other product request, if any Unilever people looking - a non viscous version of Persil Small and Mighty that is auto-dos friendly. Threre are at least two ranges of machines now using auto dosing - Bosch / Siemens which use the tank in the drawer approach and Míele which has the option of refillable tanks in the W1 and Samsung has automatic dosing in some of their higher end machines via a tank that’s accessed just under the door.

I know it’s still a bit niche but I think it’ll be mainstream soon. So how about “new Persil Small and Mighty, now dissolves even quicker and tested for autodosing” ??

Yep there’s definitely a few new products coming up.

Saw these Lenor a few months back, but they were at £8, so couldn’t justify that with the amount of conditioners I had. Now running low, so may grab some.

As mentioned, Persil have launched a pod like Ariel’s called Powercaps I think. I did add some on Sainsbury’s online shop, but ending up getting the original capsules :/

Also Bold and Daz pods are being updated to (both becoming “3in1” pods, and the Bold is also going to be available in the big oval 55 count containers like Ariel and Fairy, not sure if Daz will come in the bigger containers).

Ariel gel has changed too (now states use in a cold wash on the bottle), it’s always been aimed at cold washing, but used to bang on about 15o, so now just says cold.

Daz powder looks updated too.

The Powergems being reduced to clear is a bit concerning, wonder if they’re going?. Mind I’m not that keen on them besides the smell, they seem to take forever to dissolve. Had 2 of each (bio/non), most of it has been used in the mop bucket to mop floors (this confirmed just how hard they are to dissolve). Also used a bottle to line the bottom of the kitchen bin under the bag, bin smells lovely.

Something else I just remembered, when I spotted it 2 months back it was called Lenor “Parfumedes”, wonder why they changed the name.

Somebody’s going to come along and say Parfemedes is Parfume de Secrets in a different lingo and make me look silly aren’t they :p

Marketing departments...

... are just plain daft and overrated.

They should, of course, have just labelled it: 'Lenor: Secrets'.

Simples.

Yes, it’s all in the marketing, silly claims with even sillier names.

Don’t think there is going to be anything major with the 3in1 pod updates, Bold is running the new ad campaign now with a theme of take me home “scents that take you home”.

Thinking the only thing have they have probably done is upped the scent again, as on the last update to Bold (last year) the scents had been toned way down (to almost undetecatable), a cynic person would have though this was so they could push Bold users in to using Unstoppables and Lenor conditioner.

But there you go.

I got...

Some of the “Mystery” Parfum des secrets.

I smelt all 4, there were none I hated, possibly “Blush” would be my least favourite, but none of them smell all that strong at all in the bottle, in fact some of the normal ones smell stronger.

Also as mentioned upthread, yes the liquids from proctor and gamble (all brands) have all changed, the bottles are thinner and the dosing devices are different and none have the scrubby fins at the end anymore. Was going to get some to see if the scent or anything had changed, but the wife was stood there going do you really need any right now :-]

She rushes me through that aisle haha

"She rushes me through that aisle haha"

Quite right too, especially when things cost eight Quid a bottle!

I wonder where Tesco plucks those prices from? Clearly not from the real world.

Agree,

I actually find Tesco dearer than Sainsbury’s, but I shop at Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Morrison’s so get the best offers from all.

Sorry should have mentioned, I got the Lenor at Wilko, for £4. It was down from £8. So looks like normal price is going to be £8.

Can’t see it lasting long at that price to be fair. I would have spent £8 to try one for the first time, but definitely would not make a habit of it. Imagine if you wanted all 4 to rotate scents, that’d be £32!

If I like it, it would only be bought when on offer at whatever store (pretty much the same as I do with detergents anyway, almost never pay full for them).

The new P&G liquids are now concentrated to the same level as Unilever's i.e. 35ml for a standard load instead of 50ml. Wilko had the lot - Ariel, Bold, Daz and Fairy. I got some Ariel Colour & Style and it's the same scent as before. The dose is now a tiny bit more concentrated than P&G's gels (37ml dose) which probably explains why all the gel bottle labels now shout about how they work in cold water as there isn't really any other difference or benefit over the liquids any more.

Persil have sneakily shrunk the number of washes per bottle - 25 is down to 22, 40 to 38, I didn't see a new 60 wash size but no doubt there is one. The bottle sizes remain exactly the same of course!

There are 3 new Comfort conditioners too called Perfume Deluxe, similar to the new Lenor ones. They all smell quite nice. Wilko has them half price at £3 for a 58 wash ultra-concentrated bottle. I tried the new Lenor "Dazzle" and it smells really lovely on the bedding, even nicer than in the bottle. I can't believe they think people will pay £8 for it either!

"normal price is going to be £8"

I think it was indeed that price in Tesco.

I can well understand people 'legging it round' to the low cost shops to buy branded detergents of all types (laundry, dishwasher, bathroom, etc). Much more cost effective.

Spoodles, can I trouble you with a question please if you happen to see my post?

You mention above that you have purchased one of the newer compact P/G liquids. Liamy has told us that the new dosing devices are revised and no longer have scrubby bits. Not one for gimmicks normally, but I have to say that I find the scrubby bits really useful for pre-treating.

However, what I would like to know please is whether or not the revised dosing device is still as hideously noisy as the predecessor? Is it made of the same hard plastic?

If so I just won't bother even trying it and will stick to Persil liquid - whose dosing ball doesn't make a noise like a hand grenade revolving with the washing. I was always stupidly fussy about this but now that I mainly use a more-or-less silent (during wash tumbles) induction machine I can't stand it!!!

As for all these new fabric softeners......dear oh dear. It's getting silly in my opinion. I suppose there must be profit in it but heaven knows how; with 500 varieties on the shelf how on earth are they shifting the stuff at prices like that? I'm sure it's no better than a conditioner at a quarter of the price - and I'm with iej; I think they all smell obnoxious. Still, each to their own.

Hi Nickuk

The new design balls are still plastic, but don't feel as solid/rigid as the old ones. I haven't used it yet but maybe the smaller size will reduce the noise, but I doubt they'll be silent. The flimsier plastic will probably end up looking battered after a few washes too. I always use a Persil ball for Ariel liquid anyway, like you say, it makes no noise at all.

Thanks very much for your response, Spoodles.

Yes, I suppose that now the dosing is similar one could use the Persil balls for P/G liquid.

I do think that Persil leads the way on this particular point. The `dosing ball inside the bottle' design is also, I think, very good. It's a shame to read they they are now also joining the `con' of reducing the size but not the price. However, Persil liquid is so often to be had at very good deals that I am sure there will still be bargains to had.

New Compact Ariel Liquid

The new Ariel dosing device seems to be a slightly softer plastic (perhaps more pliable, probably thinner too), but nothing like the squidgy Persil ball.

There are raised 'protuberances' on the underside of the Ariel ball, to allow you to scrub a stain, in the style of Persil's version.

£9 in Tesco.

Hard rattles in the drum annoy me too. If I use liquid (Ariel or Persil with the flip-pour lids), I decant some into an old supermarket detergent bottle which has the conventional unscrewable measuring lid. A dose gets measured in the lid, and then the measured dose gets poured directly into the drum, or onto the clothes. That way no rattling occurs, and no liquid residue is left in the drawer either (liquids never seem to flush cleanly away).
