906 issues

Hey guys haven’t been on here for a while. But I have a 906 set that I have been using for quite a while now. They are in my home and they are the main washer and dryer that are used. I live alone so they only get used about once a week. All the sudden my washer has decided that it doesn’t want to let in cold water. I first noticed the issue when it stopped after the first spin. I went to check on the machine and it had not filled. The cold water was not working. I restarted the washer and all I could get was hot water coming in. As it normally fills with warm for a full colored load. After restarting the rinse cycle multiple times I was finally able to get it to put cold water in but only made it about halfway before it stopped again. I had to end up filling the washer the rest of the way manually to get my clothes finished. I’m kind of freaking out right now because I really like this set and I don’t want to have to get something else. My biggest fear is it’s in the timer. I haven’t yet tested to see if the cold side of the valve is receiving power or not. I would love it if it was just a valve going bad. I have been keeping an eye out for a spare timer ever since I acquired the set. But so far have been unsuccessful in locating one. Was hoping some of you guys on here might be able to give me some pointers on what to do next. And I know it’s a longshot but if anyone has a timer for sale also. I have a few pictures of the timer I took today.

#1 I would never use a 906 as a daily driver.  A dead timer or water level pressure switch will render it a useless 225 pound paperweight unless you have spares on hand.

 

#2 Your profile shows you have spare Maytag washers. Try swapping out the water valve first. You don't mention the year of the 906 washer, earlier ones used a 3 coil valve instead of the common 2 coil valve.

That’s definitely a nice pair. Report back when you know for sure whether or not the valve has voltage going to it when it’s supposed to.

It sounds like there is an issue with the inlet valve. My Maytag A606 did the same thing awhile back, replaced the inlet valve a few weeks and am back in business.

Yes I have other old washers I can use. This washer has a two solenoid valve. And I always thought I would use these as long as possible. And if the day comes I can’t use them anymore I will just swap them out for another set I have. But until that day comes I would like to have them as my daily drivers. That is what I’m going to check next is to make sure there is power going to the valve. Sometimes the valve will work sometimes it won’t.

Well I’m happy to report that putting a new valve in it seems to have fixed the issue. I’ve also got this weird thing that my dryer does once in a while. It will only run for a short amount of time and then it shuts off with the clothes still wet. I have to restart it multiple times to get the clothes dry? Any ideas?

I had that same set slip through my hands years ago. Great machines!
