A condenser dryer that takes just 37 minutes?

Unbelieveable some may say, but when you own a whirlpool AZB8680 condenser dryer, its possible. I got the dryer for 15 quid from an ad in the newspaper and the dryer is pretty much new and the previous owner wanted it gone because it was taking up space that she needed hence the price of £15. It took 37 mins to dry duvet covers and pillow cases, an hour for sheets and 40 mins for pyjamas, laundry comes from the dryer fresh, dry and well aired off. My gorenje condenser dryer is quick, but this is just crazily quick! lol

Yes, these are fast because they have strong airflow to cool the condenser. The downside is that they seem to be among the noisiest dryers out there. How does it reverse?? I read that some of the WP dryers have Wave Motion, which reverses the drum for several minutes into one direction (not just seconds).

Very Quick

My Zanussi (ZDC 37200W) which is one of Zanussi's most basic current condenser dryers will dry two double sheets (one flat, one fitted) a double duvet cover, two pillow cases & a set of PJs spun at 1200rpm, in 55 minutes, so condensors aren't all slow. But 37 minutes sounds very good!

That's impressive! My Hotpoint Aqualtis took 90 minutes to try a load of bedding, compared with the 45 minutes my vented Siemens takes.

@logixx: yeah lol I fixed an old AWZ650 condenser dryer back in the summer and that was quick (only lasted 4 days as there was more wrong with it than I thought) I agree about them being loud but at the same time its not annoyingly loud

@FL1021: Fancy trading zanussi dryers then? lol mine takes ages to dry the gorenje, candy and whirlpool are the ones I use the most. The 6th sense technology is very good! at the start of the cycle, the display shows 2 LED's that move around the display, as the dryer heats up it gets an initial moisture content reading and continues to scan the humidity through out the cycle

@AquaCyle: 90 minutes is nothing compared to the 130 my zanussi takes to dry lol

Which Zanussi?

What model is your Zanussi dryer, Tom?

130 minutes is horrendous. Even my Mum's 12 year old Electrolux Condensor (based on a Zanussi of the same age) sorts out a load of towels in 90 minutes! My Zanussi would probably manage a full load of towels in 70 minutes, though I haven't had to use it for towels in quite a while.

To be honest most loads I put in it are pretty big (as a minimum a full load from 6kg washer) and I've very rarely had to put anything back in after 50-60 minutes.

I do find my Mums older condenser does need the heat exchanger thoroughly washing under a tap from time to time to keep it effective, but my newer Zanussi hasn't needed anything except the filter cleaning and tank emptying. If the timer clicked round as the program progressed it'd be perfect.

Hi Tom,

The Siemens is fab! Longest it takes is about 1 hour 15 mins for a full load of towels. Bedding and cottons loads are done in 35-50 mins max. The sensor is spot on and the build quality is excellent!

@Liam: my zanussi condenser is the same model as yours, a load of towels from my 1600 spin zanussi ZWG7160P still takes 130 where as the load takes 85 mins in the gorenje or 55 in the whirlpool.

@aquacycle: glad to hear your siemens is working out great does it have a reverse tumble?

Crikey, something can't be right with that. Mine achieves the 55 minute drying time after spinning at 1200rpm. It might be even shorter if the load were spun at 1600rpm.

Is the machine getting sufficiently hot? Have you checked all areas between the filters and condenser for fluff build up? My Mum's older Zanussi would display these excessively long drying times even if the smallest bit of fluff was stuck somewhere, so it's worth going over it with a fine toothed comb. Other than that I'm at abit of a loss as mine really is superb. Even the likes of Which? rate it as decent I think.

Just for clarification, my Mum's older 'Zanussi' is badged Electrolux, but is essentially the same as a Zanussi TC 470 under the badging.

A great Siemens, is this the one with Rotary Iron dry? I think that cycle must take what less than 10 minutes? as I though all laundry spun at 1200rpm+ was able to be mangled without drying needed? or am I completely wrong?

These drying times...

...would be a dream. Our BOSCH heat-pump dryer takes 2h25mins for a regular 7 kg load. I hate it so much. Never again the newest invention from the trade fair...

Well Chris, after mums siemens IQ700 heat pump dryer broke back around mid-late feb to march, Im swarn off siemens and bosch, infact (and this was confermed by BSH) the dryers are made in Poland and not Geramany, it tangles bedding up badly and tbh its not the worlds best dryer. The whirlpool is doing great almost 1 week old and still dries stuff very quickly with no messing about, and its just as good as my candy and gorenje

AWZ 3303 (made in France), is nowhere near times you've mentioned in this thread so far, or is it just my illusion?

In the link is one of mine very standard loads (so you can see the load size). This exact filmed load, spun at proper long 1200rpm spin took 95 minutes to dry.

How long would have your's (no matter what make) take in the same scenario?

the candy would take an 1:10
the whirlpool would take about an hour and 10 like the candy
and my previous AWZ65o0 would take about the same.

The zanussi still didnt dry a small load of pyjamas properly, it left them damp and I cleaned all the fluff from the dryer. It was set for 65 minutes on cottons heat and still left things damp, the whirlpool is recovering them from the damp.
