Today I did a first for me for dinner. Last Wednesday we had or traditional ham dinner since everyone was home and I was not working that day. Today I made a prime rib for the first time and it came out perfectly. The carving set is 58 years old, my parents bought it in Germany when we lived there.

I roasted an 8# one for Xmas Eve.  Twice baked potatoes, creamed spinach, and popovers.

The kids brought cracked dungeness crab so we had that for an appetizer.

I'm going to make stroganoff or a pasta dish with the leftover meat.

How cool, the carving set shows the Frauenkirche (a cathedral and landmark) and the Münchner Kindel (a coat of arms).
May I ask where exactly your parents lived ?
My grandmother did a lot of houskeeping for Americans and took care of their children right after the war until the mid sixties. A boy called Mickey was one of her favourites, but that would be too much of a coincidence.

I've made

prime rib for the last several years for Christmas. This year I bought a whole beef tenderloin and cut it into individual filet's.
I wrapped them with bacon, pan seared them, then finished them in the oven.
They were juicy and tender.

Must have been a run on prime rib roasts

My cousin made one for her annual Christmas dinner as well.

In fact cannot recall seeing so much beef at so many houses for both Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Guess that glut one reads about in the news causing prices to drop is true.

Am not a huge fan of eating large amounts of red meat, but it did make a nice change. After all after Thanksgiving how much turkey can one stand again barely thirty days later? *LOL* Most of us are still looking at the stuff a week after Thanksgiving as it is.....
