I'm not a pressurer-cooker expert

But in regards to maintenance doesn't the over-pressure relief valve need to be replaced too at this age?
On units that old what is it made of? Rubber or lead? or??
Nice find! Built to last !

Great find!

The rarest item is the kettle oven, I am told. My booklet of Guardian Service Tested Recipes even has a recipe for Angel Food baked in the Kettle Oven. That is the only piece I don't have along with your pressure cooker which is not mentioned in the early book I have. The directions for preheating the kettle oven seem kind of extreme, like preheating it for 15 minutes over high heat. This must have been when gas burners and certainly electric surface units were of lower input than today. I would be afraid of melting the aluminum by heating it that long now.

The recipes show very interesting ways of preparing food and I don't mean what's cooked as much as the Guardian Service methods.

Today at the local church run thrift.......

Were these beautiful pieces of Guardian Service cookware.  The price tags on them were either $20, $22, or $25 depending on the piece.  Included were 2 unopened cans of Guardian Service Cleaner which were marked at $20 apiece.  I don't see this cookware moving off the shelf any time soon.  This thrift store has gotten a bit high with their prices lately, and it's not located in exactly the nicest part of town.

Guardian Ware began as Silver Seal back in the mid 1930's and was manufactured in their own factory here in southern California. My Grandmother on my father's side was given a number of Silver Seal pieces as a wedding gift in 1934. Both Guardian Ware and Silver Seal can be found regularly on eBay, but I've never seen a piece turn up that wasn't in desperate need of a good polishing. When properly done the textured body of the pieces will glitter brightly while the flat border areas will take on a mirror shine. They really do look impressive this way, especially when sitting on a white table cloth. If I recall what I've read in the past correctly their factory burned down in the early fifties and brought production to an end, but so many pieces were sold that anyone that wants a complete set will have little trouble putting one together off of eBay alone. I have a number of them that I use myself, including my grandmothers old Silver Seal roaster that makes an outstanding pot roast.

Nice Looking Guardian Pieces

I think that the glass-domed oval roaster is one of the most beautiful pieces in the line, but I don't know how delicate the lid is. I would not use any of it anyway, but it is beautiful in a heavy-duty way.
