A co-worker shared this with me this morning and thinking this is pretty awesome, I wanted to share with you too!

On September 2 two students from MIT launched a camera into the stratosphere to take photos of the curvature of the earth. Yes this has been done before, but never for the paltry sum of just $150.

That is really cool Kevin. Those pictures are amazing, I love the whole home grown idea! I wonder why the weather balloon burst at 93,000 feet? Pressure I assume. Tuesday nights on the Science Channel they have been having great shows on the planets which I find really fascinating.
 
A similar balloon was launched locally within the last week or so. It got up to 150K' before it popped and landed about 100 miles away as the crow . . . er . . . balloon flies.
