The first
I've seen this before. You tilt the tub vertical to wash/rinse (like a front loader), and then you return it to horizontal to spin (like a top loader). This washer could've been one step away from being an automatic. Add fill valves, a pump, a water level control, and a timer and it would be all set.
There was another early machine (I think made by Easy) where it agitates like an agitub. Then you push a pedal to lift the basket out of the water to make it spin.
