Hi guys. I'm about to change out the power cord on my 47 Philco and I ran across a discussion of a guy restoring his 1950 Coldspot. In the diagrams he has he is using wire nuts instead of going directly into the relay box. I thought it odd but that it probably made sense since I wanted to use the screw on the chassis for the ground wire and I could use the wire nuts right there.

Generally speaking

It's a good idea to keep connections inside of a properly insulated, rodent proof and 'reasonably' water-resistant box.

If you do wire nuts, then you really should wrap the connection with high-temp electrical tape such as Scotch 70.

Regardless of whether they go into a box or not.

Whatever you do, it sounds like you're going the right way!
