I think I am actually allergic to Surf Detergents, as I wore one of my tops washed in yellow Surf Small and Mighty (Lemon and Mandarin) and my neck felt like it was on fire. Its pretty sad as the yellow surf smells quite pleasant

The bad news is my mum bought some Surf Small and Mighty Tropical on offer, and I unscrewed the cap to have a sniff and it was so strongly scented it caught the back of my throat, as I type this I have been having sore throat symptoms.

I did a wash in it, and my clothes ended up stinking heavily cheap floral perfume, thats so strong and overbearing that i cant bear to wear my clothes and they will have to be rewashed again.

I find a lot of fabric softeners rather over-powering, and recently even Comfort Pure smells like they've added something that is definintely not a mild scent. I've actually gone to Fairy Softener or Ecover to avoid it.

Surf & Bold are defintely on my list of uber-stinky detergents.

Persil's not bad, Ariel quite strongly scented, but not as bad as it was a couple of years ago. It really went off the scale there for a while. I find for some reason the scent in Ariel gives me an almost instant headache feeling.

Ariel

My mum uses Ariel. I noticed recently that the fragrance has been diminished a little, but it is still overpowering. The blue "sugar strands" in the powder now seem to be blue dots. Maybe the blue dots are the fragrance?

Detergent allergy

Havent used Ariel in a while but I can use the colour powder but the green bio one is still revolting

Bold and Surf are like acid on my skin and they are too stinky, which is a shame as bold and surf were good when we had surf cottonfresh and sunfresh and bold aqua and active fresh, they had a light scent..

Daz, Fairy and Persil I can use with no problems...almat is good too from aldi, lightly scented and not tested on animals!

Bold

I have been using it a lot lately as it has been on special in Asda so I stocked up. I think the scent is not as strong as it used to be and all but disappears when items are line dried. I currently have every variation of the Gels, they were £3 for 16 washes and Crystal Rain and White Lily in the powder, £5 for 25 washes.

I agree on the softener comment though. I find a lot of them totally overpowering. I have just bought Lenor's "Success Blossom" at it was £2 for 1.4L. It smells lovely and isn't too strongly scented, would have posted a link but it isn't on the Asda website.

Strongly scented?

My flatmate uses Surf liquid and I use the powder version and have to say that there is hardly any fragrance left on the laundry at all, nowhere near as strong as Bold, Ariel etc.  Whether this is a good or bad thing I don't know.

Perhaps this is more of a personal over-sensitivity rather than a reflection on detergents and/or fragrances as a whole.
