Posted about possibly getting a 1966 Frigidaire dishwasher and matching range a few weeks back. We got 'em. Mostly fantastic. Still have to figure out the dishwasher, but have been using the range for a few weeks, and the cook top burners work great. The oven works ... too great. Thermostat doesn't seem to be working and no matter the setting, always cranks up to hottest, and stay there. Tried the oven cleaning cycle, and that worked great. But for actual cooking, not so good. It's got to be the thermostat, right? Other possibilities? Thoughts? Will try to post a photo of the range later today.
Beautiful turquoise, like the dishwasher. Thanks.

1966 FD Oven Temperature ?

Hi, When you set the oven to 350F where does it actually heat too ?

Does the bottom bake element ever go off at 350F or does it stay red hot till the oven is turned off ?

The oven temperature control system on this range has several components, 1 A responder, the thing the temperature dial is attached to, 2 a sensor in the oven, 3 a set of heat relays, 4 a transformer to step down the voltage for this control system and several temperature limit thermostats etc.

I would need answers to the first questions to even guess what might be wrong.

The oven control system on these first FD SC oven [ plus the Tender-Matic system ] made this one of the most complex ovens ever built for home use and they often became very hard to keep working, in my time I converted several to non-SCing operation by installing a standard hydraulic thermostat so the customer did not have to trash such a beautiful range.

I have one of these first FD SC ranges in our collection in the 40" model, I will post a few picture of what's inside the rear panel to make it all work.

John L. - Thanks for all of that info. And apologies for not realizing until now that you had posted it. I had to pull the stove out of the kitchen to keep the kitchen functional, so it's not plugged in at the moment to test as you directed, but will do so and see what we get.
