Amana 27 Touchmatic THREE HUNDRED BUCKS :/

I LOVE these sooooo much. But I hate the price of this one.

Was going to buy one locally last month for $50...but had been outside way too long. Look how pristine this is...quite rare.

I wonder if the "27" claim is accurate.  Back in those days, 25 cf was about the largest you could find.

 

I'm not so crazy about all of that business between the two doors.  Why not incorporate it into the ice and water panel like GE did?

I think "27" is rounded up from...

about 26.5 I know the comparable GE unit of the time was actually 26.67 cu.ft...so Amana are in the ballpark. They offered Amana 22, Amana 25 and this 27.

Oh wow! I remember those milk access door fridges! I had completely forgotten about them! I think I tried to talk my parents into replacing their early 80s Kenmore with one of these, as I thought the milk access was *the* height of sophistication. I believe the response was something to the tune of 'When you can buy it, feel free.'

My in-laws had that exact, same GE--Snak-Finder, electronics and all!

 

Seems as though well-built enough for the refrigeration and the fancy Star Wars crap on it, to have both worked until the very end...

 

But I really think even for that steep of a price, that Amana might really be something to go for!

Very nice!

That's not a horrible price on the Amana, especially for being so clean! One thing that I just remembered is that there's an adjustable vent into the 'Beverage Chiller' that lets you keep that compartment cooler than the main fridge area. It really worked, too.

Cadman...those are such nice fridges...

but I just can't make myself pay 300 for something which was made between 1987-1993. Well, unless it was closer to home maybe .... !!! It's a 1400 mile round trip to get this thing and my truck gets less than 14mpg overall so, This would be an incredibly expensive Amana for its age. I shall keep on lookin'

Nice fridges! I really liked the older fancy side by sides. The newer ones are okay, but they just don't have the interesting look these have. And these still look modern, IMO.

I don't seem to see that many around here. But recently I went to an estate sale and saw a black Kenmore with touchpad controls, dispensers, and the drop-down panel. I would guess it dated back to ca 1994. There were also double wall ovens with a microwave above them, a trash compactor, dishwasher, and a triple Jenn Air cooktop. It had a grill and two ceramic burner units, and a canopy hood above. It was hard to tell how old all this was as the cabinets were maple with granite countertops, so it still looked modern, but from the appliances I'd say mid-90s.

Back on topic, how do fridges of this era compare to a new fridge in energy costs?
