Amana radarange users - help needed

Hello I have a 1978 amana radarange microwave in the uk. I’ve been following a chap called Cory and his great site about these machines. I’m not sure if he’s on here. Basically I’ve replaced the aged seals which helps direct air through the machine and turns the stirrer in the roof. However my roof cover has deformed over the years and I cannot alter it to get it to fit without blocking the stirrer. He said he may have a second hand one but I’m wondering does any one have a really good spare one I could buy. Although I’m in uk and would need it posting here I have a friend in New York who could forward on if you don’t want to. Obviously I’ll pay postage too.

Hey Richard, did you have a chance to try my suggestion of applying weight to the center of that shield while warming in an oven at low temp? Yours actually looks pretty good compared to some I've seen.

How can you tell the antenna is hanging up? Best- C.

I wasn’t sure if you’d be in this group ! My friend Al suggested Cadman might be you !! I didn’t try the oven thing but tried a hot air gun slightly bending the edges. I tired several permutations and it’s like the stirrer is too big for the cover any movement front or back it catches. I tried several adjustments and used a blower end for a vac and directed air in slots in front and I could get the stirrer to turn but it clattered against plastic roof. The stirrer is screwed to roof and has a tiny bit of free play but doesn’t wobble. I just thought I’d ask folks on here if they had new old stock spares. At the moment I’m using it without cover as only way stirrer turns. It’s one of those jobs you give it 15 mins then have to walk away because either your patience or your back goes !

Hi Richard, I would try Cory's suggestion of trying to reform the cover in a hot oven, maybe with a brick on it.

 

My 1974 R-4 had the same problem many years ago, at the time I was still able to get a new stirrer cover and it has held up well.

 

If you can not reform it or end up ruining it I can send you a good used one to your friend in NY, Let me know, Hopefully in a year or so I will be able to travel over to see you guys again, stay safe, John

Thanks again. I’ll have another go at altering it and let you know. Yes crazy year hardly had chance to see the lads ! And we have lots of machines to move amongst us !!
