Hey guys,

I recently picked up a mint Electromatic of later vintage, probably 1972 or later. The cap on the later ones isn't as nice as on earlier models, with a clear plastic center instead of glass, and the plastic piece is much smaller in diameter than on earlier models. It also uses a spring-loaded assembly to hold the basket in place rather than the clip near the top of the heating assembly that flips up and down.

I passed that particular Electromatic along to a friend whose Mom wanted one. I've decided I want an earlier vintage.

At the same place where I found the minty one, I also found just the heating element for an older model 1300. It has stainless trim on top with an embossed star motif and a diamond cut indicator light.

I have two questions. I read that the 1300 model's heating unit requires a different type of power cord than other (later?) models. Is this true? What is the difference?

I also tried the 1300 element in the later model's carafe, and it wouldn't fit into the handle. Is there a way to identify a 1300 carafe from later models? The best scenario would be for me to find a complete early model, but in case I come across just a carafe, I'd like to know how to identify the correct one.

I would appreciate any advice people may be able to contribute.

Thanks Ron. I did see a picture on line that had a regular percolator cord included, but thought maybe it wasn't original to the pot.

I'll have to see how using such a cord impacts grasping the handle. Even with the newer style, connecting it one way would place the cord against the carafe handle, while connecting it the other way would place distance between carafe handle and the cord. I never knew which way Corning wanted the user to connect those cords.
