Another kenmore 300 wringer question

Hi again, Did I notice an electrical switch on another Kenmore 300 wringer (which is what my wringer is) Or did they always just unplug to shut off the electrical? If they had some sort of electrical switch that would be another thing mine would be missing.

Damien, can you get any pix up? Not familiar with the numerical sequences, but in the general, the lower end models of most brands did not

have an OFF/ON switch -- you just pulled the plug -- as you say, while the higher end models had an OFF position on the timer dial, and a HOLD position

to keep the motor running without engaging the timer. A few, like the Easy wringer, did sport an actual OFF/ON switch, separate from the timer. I doubt that your machine has such a switch. Will locate my KM Wringer Book later, and see what's there.

 

Would love to see your 300 machine, inside and out.

Another question, what does the timer do on models equipped with them? Does it time it for like for delicates rather than for a gentler agitation? This will help me improvise like by watching mine closely whenever I wash delicates in my wringer.

Here ya go

Some makes with timers also have speed switches; that way if you want a gentle touch on a soiled load, you can wash for the max time of 25 minutes on gentle speed. NOTE: The timer turns clockwise all the way to just before HOLD, yielding 25 minutes, and counterclockwise for the HOLD setting.

The "HOLD" setting allows you to keep the motor running in whatever mode you're using wash, wring, drain, or all of the above. Where the term comes form is still a mystery: On a dishwasher, HOLD, means still and off, as in Rinse and Hold. On the conventional washers, HOLD means ON and running. Interesting. One day. I hope to find the reason for this earlier usage.

I've seen your straight vane agi here recently in a few other machines, but not a stand alone for sale. Keep looking. Things turn up around here like turnips at harvest time.

on off switch for Kenmore

I have a Kenmore Visi-matic, the top of the line for the Kenmores. Mine has the control panel shown by mickeyd, but with a newer knob. It does exactly what he said it does. Turn to "hold" and wash till the cows come home. Otherwise use the timer. Mine also has a two speed switch that is great for gentler washs.
Most of the videos I have seen show people just plugging the plug (standing in water!) into the wall and the thing takes off. Guess thats why so many old laundry rooms had a Square D box with a pull switch on it!
I love mine and its full of whites now soaking over night to finish up in the am and go out on the line.
Whats wrong with the agitator?

Nothing is wrong with the agitator itself I just wondered so I can like maybe do only a couple strokes with the agitator on delicates. with mine I'll just have to do that manually. Hopefully I'll do some wringing and taking some photos soon. so stay tuned.
