Hi guys. Thougt I would share these pics with you. Another laundrette closing a few miles from me and everything is being sold for buttons on e bay. Sadly I can't do the link as I'm using my smart phone but I have copied the pics to share. it's a shame someone on here couldn't buy them. Whole laundry for nearly no money.

The dry cleaning machine has no bids and is starting at 99p and the five gas dryers have a start price of 99p with no reserve. it's a being closed down as the owner has retired and everything has to be gone in a few days. So sad to see another one bite the bullet

Launderette

Hi Robbie, had seen that in Crosby, sad to see it close after all these years..and all those golden era colours, most of the liver Launderettes are all stainless steel washers and dryers now!!

Ipso washers and Loadstar dryers made a winning combination...

Ian?

Lol my names Robbie

If I had a big enough out house I would throw a bid in on the washers cos they are going to go cheap. It's only a 3 day auction as well.

ha ha

Soz Robbie was just talking to Ian about it... yes and me the same, would be great to get an old working launderette and space for a museum along side it, retro cafe with the red leather bench seats obviously.

Drove to bem Brasil Liverpool last night and past all the Liver Launderettes, looking all stainless and the same now - no colour at all!!

I remember as a kid my first job when I was 11 was taking the beer mats from our local pub to the liver laundrette every Saturday. Dream job lol. And all the washers were stainless steel then. Rex machines and that was about 27 years ago. I must admit since having a larger capacity machine I don't go the laundrette anymore to wash duvets etc. Plus it's so expensive now as well.

Classic Laundrettes

I agree Mike, a preserved classic laundrette would be great, it's a shame that we're slowly losing part of our social history, it would be nice to see one recreated within part of one of the industrial heritage sites along with the old shops and pubs.
I have very fond memories from childhood of our local establishments. Considering Stone is only a small town, during the 70's and 80's we managed to support two laundrettes. One in a 1970's block of shops and the other a converted mid terrace house. The best thing being they were both equipped with turquoise Frigidaires, I used to love standing on a chair watching them through the window in the lid. I'd love to see one of these again. Does anyone have any technical details on these machines?
Thanks for bringing these memories back for me.

Ian

Laundrettes

Hi Robbie, I wonder how many Liver Laundrettes operate, there seems to be tons about?, yes doing all those barmats does sound a dream job!!

Ian, this was a launderette that I passed on the way to south Wales through Hereford, should check with Lee to see if its still there. Just found one out of Milnrow and it still has coloured Whirpool top loaders from the 80`s, pics to follow, I always keep a sleeping bag in the boot just in case I find an old shop and need to use the classic washers!!

Laundrettes

That looks great Mike, I noticed that there is still a nice example in Tywyn, Mid Wales as I drove through in the summer, it looks like it may be all modern inside but still has its Westinghouse Laundromat signs outside. I remembered this from family holidays in the 70s, I always wanted to go in but was never allowed. From what I can recall it was all yellow top loaders, presumably Westinghouse. Sadly I expect that all these wonderful old Westinghouse, Frigidaire and Speed Queen commercial top loaders are extinct. Maybe one day....
