For years, I have been looking to get a Miami Carey range hood like my great aunt had when I was a kid. I always liked the pushbutton controls and the two lighted panels on each side.
Last year, I bought a second Maytag A806 in a house that was about to be demolished and there was a similar one there. It was in bad shape and it was a bit newer but I bought it anyway... It was originally a no-vent model with a charcoal filter but it was modified to be vented. It had been poorly repainted and the glass panels had been replaced with smoked mirror plexiglass panels which really didn't look good. I cleaned it and I painted it with a spray can and I also replaced the glass panels but I was still not very satisfied with the result... I don't like the embossed pattern in the metal either. Older ones don't have that.
A few weeks ago, the model I was searching for was advertised on Kijiji for free. Now that was interesting. It was 3 hours away and the guy who offered it didn't want to keep it long so I offered him $20 and asked to a friend who lives nearby to get it for me.
This one is the exact model I wanted. It needed some cleaning but wasn't as filthy as the previous one! The paint had been stripped from it and someone tried to make it look like it had a stainless finish. The rust had been showing through and it was covered with grease which made it almost look like it was coppertone.
I cleaned it, primed it with epoxy primer and then I was wondering which color I should repaint it.
I was thinking about repainting it Turquoise but I didn't have enough Turquoise paint remaining and I didn't want to keep it disassembled any longer so I repainted it white with urethane paint. Now I'm satisfied with the result. It will probably be repainted in another color later!
it looks great in white! I like the colored buttons on the first hood - maybe you could swap them into the white hood? That would give it some pizzazz!.
