Does anyone know where I can have my grandmothers Ham Beach Mixer serviced. I am in Sacramento, CA., and have had no luck finding someone to repair my mixer. It is circa 1945 Automataic G, and I think it needs new carbon brushes. If it runs for a few minutes, it will produce a very white almost invisible smoke. I would love to have it fully serviced,by soneone who knows what they are doing. I would be open to any suggestions, as this mixer means alot to me. Thanks David

Black caps

Are the brush caps black or white? (White is newer) Are thee an extra set of black plastic caps lower on the mixer body? I think the issue is more related to the speed control behind the gears but worn points can be a factor.

Carbon Dust

Accumulated carbon dust can allow leakage of electric charge to the housing of the mixer. It can also have a bare wire inside denuded by the smoking or excessive heating you refer to.

Shocking G?

I have my grandmother's G and it sometimes did that too. I took it apart to clean the innards, change the grease in the gears, and replace the cord. Is there a source for the cork gasket that goes between the front cover and the body of the mixer? Must it be a cork gasket, or can it be a rubber O-ring? Is it possible to replace the oil wicks for the motor? The original instruction manual says to use sewing machine oil, but is it OK if I use Zoom Spout oil? I also need to find a source for a new set of beaters as mine are severely mangled (my grandmother retired the mixer after she sent a spatula through the blades). Mine has the white brush caps, but should I replace the brushes just as a routine part of a 60-year overhaul?

I love my G,
Dave

My mixer was a part of my grandmother's kitchen from 1946-2004. I am not painting it, just doing a mechanical rehabilitation. With any luck, I hope to get another 60+ years of use out of it in my kitchen.

I believe sewing machine oil and turbine oil are both 10W oils. I don't see why they couldn't be interchanged.

Wick Happy

I have been using aerosol Silicone lubricant and have great success being sure the oil is making it all the way to the wick. The cork seals are no longer available. You might try Dave Harnish at davesrepair.com. He has some parts. I have lots of beater, just shoot me an address and I'll pop them in the mail.

Too much oil....

A lot of times too much oil is the problem,it gets on the resistor in the rear near the governor and smokes...clean everything well and it might fix the problem.
