Neighbors had that same machine when I was a kid. 

 

It never washed a dirty dish; they were so thoroughly rinsed by my young friend every night after dinner, most certainly under strict instruction by one or both parents.

That cracked control panel breaks my heart.

I've been looking for one of those Antique Gold control panels for my KDS-55 forever. The one on the dishwasher is one of the later Ye Olde Fayke Woode Graine ones.

The search continues.

Mine is cracked too in the same spot.

I have no idea what caused it.  I have been very careful when opening and closing the door, etc.  It just seems that one morning I noticed it was cracked.  I took the control panel off and put some duct tape behind it to strenghten it a bit and hopefully eliminate anymore damage, but I'd also love to find a replacement for mine.

 

You can see the crack on mine but with the tape it's not as noticeable.

Some good quality cyanoacrylate glue can make cracks much less visible on clear plastic. I was even able to make one completely invisible on the clear control panel my 1965 Frigidaire washer, but usually, they're much improved but still noticeable!  The glue also sometimes "melts" the plastic where it's applied and leaves a white film around where it was used but that can be removed by sanding/polishing.
