When I say permanent, I mean at least a 10 year fix. I know there are ways to replace just the bearing and seal (without having to replace the entire outer tub) but the water still tends to get into the bearing and ruin it after a while. Is there any way to keep this from happening? My Neptune is an old MAH3000AWW and I am trying to decide whether or not this is a viable long term machine.

depends on what you looking to do by means of long term.....since you have the 3000 series....has the mtor board/wax motor been updated?.....this seemed to be an issue with this series......

bearring and seals can run you about 60.00, give or take.......and for the most part, many have lasted about 10 years with normal wear....some longer, some not....

actually its a matter of did you want to keep this machine, and that their in good condition.....or search around for the newer design models like the 5500 series and up.....I have 8 of them, 4 washers/4 gas dryers.....and their all daily drivers......only one has ever needed bearings......

or toss them out, and go for something else.....

also keep in mind, only the first set I bought brand new, the rest only cost me 100.00 per set.....

Very Nice! I would like to keep this machine since I believe it to be a significant part of "washing machine history". It does have the new motor and new motor control board. It also has the new wax motor in the door lock. I have been told that there is another wax motor somewhere in the detergent/bleach/fabric softner dispenser mechanism that also can go bad and ruin some supporting electronic circuitry but I don't know if this is true or not. The outer tub with bearing was replaced about 4 years ago. The only real problem I see with it right now is if I remove the plastic bezel for the dispenser door, the metal around the ezel is very corroded and starting to flake off in rust chunks and fall into the dispenser cups so if I want to keep it, I might have to buy a new top for the machine. The top is about $100 so this is kind of why I am at a decision point with this machine.

well, theres an option to find another top in better shape, with out buying a new one.....these all seem to start rusting at the seems of the dispenser.....

if yours is still functioning, I would keep it.......just be on the lookout for the digital versions.....I have all 5500......the 6500 adds the internal heater(but since my water heater is set at 140, no big difference)......and then theres the 7500 with the StainBrain TouchScreens, the ultimate of these machines.....

2 things of an upgrade from yours in selecting digital, no wax motor, so you can open the door in an instant.....and the final rinse, not sure if it adds more water, but the higher speed action ensures the whole inner workings are flushed clean, reducing mold issues........

I only wash in Hot/Warm water 99% of the time, of course I wash many loads in a weeks time, several are bleach washes, and never leave the door open or the dispenser, and never encountered the issues some people have with mold....2 of the washers I got were completely black inside when I got them......shower mold killer spray, and a few washes with bleach and/or dishwasher detergent took care of all of it....and has never returned........

many of your parts from your 3000 will transfer to the newer versions.....and some are 3000 specific.....but never hurts to have a parts machine....

here are my second "fleet" of Neptunes.....I need one more washer(like a hole in my head), and I also want the Neptune Drying cabinet.....someday it will turn up!

Spare parts machines are dangerous....lol....one never knows what I get into.....but several members are pushing me to install plexiglas in a door of a Neptune.......right now its was just cut as a DEMO, to see it function....

Hi. As soon as you finish your Neptune´s door and works ok, please let me know how you did it because I´m desperate to see my MAH7500 working without splashing all over the place, this picture looks awesome, and if they work it will be incredible. I can´t get why Maytag made this beauties without a window.

Maytag drying cabinet

I have one of these in gas also that the distributor gave me bran new because of dents in the two upper doors. The gas one was the only one to get as on the all electric machine  the main dryer was really slow because they put a really low wattage element in it to allow the upper dryer to be able to run at the same time. The gas model didn't have this constraint, but id did need a 20 AMP 120 outlet because the upper unit was still electric. Martin I would offer them no more than $200 for it and maybe less as they are all but saying that the lower unit doesn't work and many parts for these are already NLA. I also bet the machine weights more than 130 lbs.
