I little over 30 years ago I redid the kitchen with then trendy golden oak cabinets. Fast forward to today and I'm very tired of them but they are in almost mint condition, get cleaned annually with Murphy's Oil soap. Toyed with the idea of paint, but getting a furniture finish I'd want would require much work to hide the oak graining, not going to happen. Only option is replace the brass and ceramic hardware with brushed nickel. Replacing the hinges with hidden self closing ones. Funny - I've been told golden oak is making a comeback, I guess if you wait long enough everything comes back into fashion.
Issue, filling the holes when the center knobs have been, using pulls rather than knobs. Looking for any tips on hiding the existing holes. The issue exists only on the drawers, all the doors will work well with the new hardware. Wood filler is an option with a touch of stain and then poly, but seems a bit labor intensive, I've never had great success with wax sticks, so I'm wondering if anyone here has good luck camouflaging holes in oak cabinetry.
I've replaced all the pulls on the upper cabinets and I'm really happy with the look, the nickel looks great with the oak and has nice clean lines. Need to order 35 pulls for the lower cabinets but in a quandary as to filling the holes. Got a couple of weeks before the replacements arrive. The lower cabinets get a lot more abuse so odds are I will be going over then with some poly so filler might be the only option, but open to suggestions.
