There is another Hurley press on eBay as well, in better conditon than the above.

Hurley presses probably are from the 1950's or 1940's. Think the former as they are heavy, all metal beasts, and for a 1400 watt appliance do not have the grounded plug found on irons in later years. Hurley press bases are cast iron, while my Spartan press bases are a lighter metal. Never seem to have good luck with Spartan presses as two died on me, but seems you can't kill Hurley presses.

Yes, if one knows what one is doing it is easy to whip through flatwork and even shirts, trousers, skirts and lots of other laundry on a Hurley press. Sometimes prefer them to ironers as long flat items are simply folded to fit the buck, then *BAM*, down comes the shoe with enough pressure to deal with the most stubborn wrinkles.

I think this would be much easier to learn to use for clothing rather than the roller irons/mangles which excel at flatwork.

Hurley... I wonder if this unit was still any relation to the Thor company, or if "Thor" was gone by this point and Hurley still made ironing equipment?
