I have a late 70's glasstop range. It is in mint condition. Or it WAS, I should say, until the cooktop apparently decided it had enough of my daily cooking. With a harsh ping that sounded like a single gunshot, cracks raced out to the four corners of the poor thing. Oddly enough, they started at, and covered a burner that wasn't even on at the time! I've contacted as many local parts places as I could find, and I contacted many on the internet as well, to no avail. Any suggestions anyone?

Thanks, Douglas

I kind of figured as much....

Thanks Coldspot! =) But then, who knows, maybe if I am in the right place at the right time....

The only thing I ever won......

Was a weed eater. That was years ago. Coincidentally, the day before, I'd gone to settlement on my 19th floor condominium. I had to buy another when I finally had a yard, but thats another story. KennyGF, it's a Tappan. If no one else has any ideas I may start looking for used appliance stores. I'd get a new range, but I'm defenitely into the retro thing. I have newer laundry machines, but thats about it. I dont think newer appliances have the personality of the older ones. Call me crazy. Also the Tappan is an all in one type deal, with a built in microwave, and all the works. I believe this was probably one of the first of it's type. I could be wrong, but either way, I love using this range.

Tappan Range

I really appreciate you guys trying to help. Here are some pictures of my wounded range. And fixerman, the model no is 77-4975-26-02195-8628 with a notation "include on all repair part orders" and an arrow pointing at the 02195. Thanks for all the feedback guys =)

hey Toggle

Sure is! I cant stand the thought of parting with it. I HAVE to find a new glass top. I had another idea too....I wonder if I could find a similar beast that they still make parts for, and order that way? Hmmmm....it's a thought! =)

History....

I can actually go into a bit of detail on this thing... Having purchased the house from the original owner, the story goes.... she bought the house pre-construction. A sales representative for the contractor sent her to the appliance vendor they used, in a suburb completely on the other side of the city. She purchased the best they had at the time, for installation in this house. The cool thing about it is, I have all the original books, papers, brochures, AND even the reciepts for my appliances. =)

I wish you luck on finding a replacement top. I'd feel the same way if it were mine. How long do you think you can hold out without the stovetop functioning and do you have a place to store it just in case you can't find one right away. You know what happens don't you, if you finally dispose of it a part will show up within days.

I have a garage.....

I have a basement...And if I thought my luck was that good, I'd cart it down there tomorrow, and eagerly await my new part! =) And actually, the stovetop still works. I'm not so keen on using it in it's present condition though. Thanks for the comments pete, and toggle. And if anyone at all has any type range with a similar glass top new enough to get parts for PLEASE send me your model number!! =)
