What a beautiful example of a fairly well-loaded '62 GP!  AM/FM wasn't even an option on some makes in '62.

 

I love that the original black plates are still on it (although it would have had black-on-yellow plates when purchased, unless it was sitting in dealer storage for over a year before it sold).  That absolutely adds value.  The recently re-released black plates are an abomination, but they are super popular.  At least they don't use the same alphanumeric formatting, and most are personalized, and they're on vehicles far, far newer than 1969, which was the last model year that got black plates, so they're easy to differentiate from the '63-'69 black series.

 

The clock, if it's not difficult to access, is an easy fix.  The contacts that reset the spring are likely burnt to a crisp.  I fixed the clock's contacts on my '64 Galaxie by adding some solder to them.

 

The A/C could be anything, but I'm betting it's something simple.

I'm with Dan - it's a wonder that Pontiac didn't outfit the GPs with the 4 speed Hydromatic instead the disastrous Roto. Saving them all for the Bonnevilles, I suppose.

Certainly a lot more car than my '86 Grand Prix.
But...mine was limited to something like 1200 units, for what it's worth. 😬
If I had the sense I was born with, I'd be trying to sell mine, now that the warm weather is here.

the larger 421 super duty was a limited run. I had an '86 Grand Prix LE V8. I loved that car. A/C, Full power, guages, cloth 45/55 front seat, premium Delco am/fm/auto reverse cassette, power antenna too. No moon roof, but wire wheels, and landau padded top. Gun metal grey on grey interior. Still had chrome bumpers below the tops, and wide chrome lower body moldings. The 200R4 overdrive trans shifted a bit abruptly from first to second, but it was good on gas.

My '86 has the 2+2 package, designed for NASCAR.
No performance boost over a regular GP. It has the Chevy 305 4bbl, with the overdrive automatic. Probably exactly like yours mechanically. They gave it a somewhat firmer suspension, rally rims, and nearly all the luxury options. Solid roof, and no power seats. But, buckets and console.
I used to love it. Then, I let it sit in a rickety garage for 19 years. Last summer, I had it towed to my mechanic to get it back on the road.
Instead of loving it, I kind of hated driving it. I took it to two cruise nights last year, and that's it. It's just been sitting in a different garage now. Granted, here in the northeast, your nice cars have to hibernate for half of the year. But I just don't have any desire to drive it any more. The flat-spotted tires don't help, but that's not the only issue.

Yes Barry, I know what you mean that the novelty of it has now wore off. My 81 Vette has been sitting unused in my garage for 12 years now. There is nothing majorly wrong with it but would need a good going over before being put back on the road. It has every option available on it except for a factory CB radio. Being one of the first to come out of the new Louisvvlle plant in August 1981, It was supposed to be an 82 but GM could not get the crossfire injection to work right so they put a 4bbl carb on it and it was sold as an 81.

Yeah...I guess I have a case of "the thrill is gone".
I don't know how much of it is the car, and how much is just me having become an old fart in the nearly twenty years that the car was off the road. I admit, I just don't have the enthusiasm for anything like I used to.
Pretty much everything on my car stopped working while it sat. No radio, no climate control, etc.
Fortunately, the power windows still work, and it runs and drives.
And, luckily, by having been in a garage all that time, as opposed to outside, it still looks fairly decent.
The worst part of driving it now is the tires. The flat spots make the car feel like you're constantly driving over train tracks. And I can't afford to replace them.
Well, I can't afford to replace them properly. I could buy less expensive tires, but I have OCD.
The car came with GoodYear Eagle GTs originally. Twenty years ago, I bought a set of brand new Eagle GT IIs for it. I think that was the closest I could get at the time.
Well, now they don't make them at all. Another company bought the molds and the rights to reproduce the originals, which would look great on the car. But, they're in the neighborhood of $400 each! I just can't do it.
I don't know if you'll find yourself in a similar situation with your 'Vette if you get it back up and running.

Good deal!

Here's the '86 Grand Prix 2+2.
One shot when it was getting towed out. First time leaving the property in 19 years.
Other shots are its first cruise night. Totally random, I encountered another one on the road, and he was headed there too! Ended up side by side.
It was actually the first time his car was out in about the same length of time as mine.

SOLD!!!

I sold the Pontiac for $19,500.00 This morning. The purchaser is flying from New Orleans into Fort Wayne, next weekend. And I will pick him up from the airport and give him a ride to my sisters home, where he will drive the back to New Orleans. He is very excited to get the car, and promises to give it a loving new home. So everyone is very happy!
