It's the age ol' story isn't it?
The whole world is against the Russians! Just ask them.
Quad or not, there was a clear difference in the 2 performances last night. One competitor "phoned his in" and the other competitor was on the hunt for a medal and had fire in his eyes.
Sorry, but you can't show up at the Olympics with the attitude of, "I wasn't doing anything this month, so I thought I'd swing by and pick up a gold."
My other comment is; Olympic athletes from all countries know what a political game the Olympics have always been. Those in judged sports know that at an even deeper level. So IMO, if you wanna play, you need to be willing to pay that price. If it doesn't turn out your way, you need to suck it up, be a good sport out in public, then go home and punch holes in the wall if that's what you need to do. Otherwise, shut the h*ll up, no one wants to hear it.
And I'm not buying the, "I decided to come out of retirement" story. You can bet he got a call from the Kremlin, and an offer of a fancy new apartment, and a brand new Audi, if he'd skate....because they didn't have anybody else, and it was a matter of national pride.
