My mother was asking me if I knew of anyone that had any Frigidaire "poppy" colored appliances that they would sell...I told her that it was probably getting harder and harder to find especially -fridges...in fact I would love to find a poppy washer /dryer but I know there are so many like myself looking for the same...comments, suggestions or ideals?

Poppy Frigidaire!

My Aunt had a beautiful poppy 1/18 set from 1974. In fact she had the whole basement wall was painted to match. (I wish I still had the pictures)

I'm wondering why Poppy Red wasn't available on all washer models like most other colors?

I took this detail about 1973 models that Peter posted in another thread. It seems that only the 1-18 Custom Deluxe model could have been ordered with this color that year. Was it also true for other years? Was it an error/omission in the literature?

Also, here's an ad showing a single speed red W3-24 GMini and the chart above doesn't mention it was available on other models than the 2 speed W3-224.

Poppy Frigidaire!

Actually the 1973 and 1974 models were the same. My Aunt bought her set in April, 1974. Hers was almost a match to WI3T except it had 2 speed instead of 4. The following year they changed the control panel styling.

Still bizarre that the red cabinets (which were the same as those on other models) could just be ordered on the Custom Deluxe and not on the Imperial and Custom Imperial models.

Thanks everybody for your great pictures, info and replies! If anyone decides to sell or who knows of someone who is selling a Frigidaire "Poppy" washer / dryer or fridge ..please email me at [email protected]

SEPARATE OVEN AND TOP ELEMENT FUSES

To my knowledge no US built electric ranges have ever used separate fuses for the individual elements. It is not required here, although I feel that it should be.

I hope someone here goes after this Poppy range, these ranges were built like tanks, it is easy to see why WCI didn't even give a serious thought to continuing to build this range, as they could never have sold it at a completive price.

I thought Poppy was one of the best colors the American appliance industry ever came up with (along with Whirlpool's short-lived Sapphire). But it was introduced at a bad time: GM was just about to unload the Frigidaire brand, and most of the decorator nit-wits were declaring all of those strong appliance colors with shaded edging "gauche" and everyone was moving to safer colors like "almond" (i.e. beige) and white.

One of the things disturbing about going into appliance departments nowadays is that everything, EVERYTHING, is white and gray. Having worked with stainless steel appliances for most of my career I can tell anyone that no surface is harder to keep clean and it is annoyingly un-magnetic. Give me porcelain enamel anyday.
