I hate Wal-Mart

I just can't seem to put into words how much I hate them and why. It might have something to do with destroying small businesses and their contribution to cheapening consumer goods.

Ok, off to go pet a vintage appliance now. :-)

Any auto maker that could provide us with an affordable alternative fuel vehicle, and do so while sticking it to the UAW, would get a few checkmarks in the OK column in my book.

Is that a toy?

Pete, that looks like fun. I really don't think that many larger americans want to be in something 29 inches wide. I am not supporting the UAW, but teeny tiny cars isn't the answer.

Stick it to the extortionist UAW, indeed!! Though, I think they're getting theirs now.

THe cars look cute, let's hope they're competitive.

Those cars are so tiny and don't look comfortable, myself being 6'5" I would hate riding in that, I will stick to the Full sized luxury land yaghts I drive.
This is not the first time a car has been sold through a store, in 1952 or 53 Sears Roebuck sold a car, the AllState through it's stores mostly in the South West they were made by the Kaiser-Frazer company and was the same as the Henry J sold under their names.

It's coming - and China (along with India) will win the race to the top of the heap. I believe there is a test-market in Florida right now for Chinese automobiles with plans to expand their reach into the rest of the country within a few short years. Inexhaustible cheap labor and insatiable demand in their own countries will fuel an explosion into global markets.

R&D, engineering, manufacturing - every thing is cheaper in Asia. I have little doubt that driving one will be a lot like washing in one of those ghastly GE front-loading washers, but they're coming and at a price-point that will be attractive to millions.

I am thinking the 2nd car in the driveway will be electric, for local errands, or a quick commute to work if its close. People will cling to at least one gasoline car as long as they can, for long distances or extreme hot or cold weather. AND if you have a new teenage driver at home what a blessing for parents :-), they ain't gettin too far away from home. Travis count me in,i am not buying mine at wal-mart either.

Don't forget the pearl of wisdom from the mouth of the great Lee Iacocca then president of Chrysler when asked about upstart Hyundai he said something to the effect of them being nice looking cars but not of good quality. I really do remember seeing that on the news way back and thinking at the time surely he jests. While Hyundai back then wasn't of Toyota or Honda standards it was certainly the equal if not better than Chryslers even at that early stage.

Check out this pic

The link will take you to one of the oddest little cars ever built. These were called the Isetta and I still remember them from my earlier childhood days. One of my mom's old bosses, who was 6'4", used to fold himself inside one of these. I am sure he also used to weigh more than the car and almost required a crowbar to extract himself. Did any of these ever make it to the States?

Cheers

EEWWW Yuck

I don't like it at ALL. I think I will buy one and put it in my Blendtec blender and make a new video with the owner, Tom Dickson on willitblend.com......Im going there right now....Bill in Az....

Isettas were sold here in Canada waaaaay when I was a kid in the late 50's early 60's though very rare to see one. The last one I saw on the road oddly enough was about 3 years ago when we were still in Calgary living out in the country and one went tootling down the road. I'm thinking it belonged to a guy about 3 miles up who did backyard repairs to Audi's and old BMW's

I HATE Wal-hell

I had no idea that wal-mart was THAT bad. I think I'll just go to my gay Target store and maybe find myself a husband. But I might have to kill him if he hurts my appliances. I guess I should be more positive in my thinking, but that's a little painfull for me (just kidding, really man)....Bill in Az...

wal-mart

I know people hate walmart for whatever reason, and they are entitled to their opinions, but I can say that with all the economic problems the country has been having iam grateful for my job at walmart for the last 6 years. And living in Lima Ohio the only place one can buy things and not have to pay an arm and a leg and two offspring, and get everything one needs all in one place, is what iam grateful for. Sure i dont agree with some ways they do things but with all the problems with the economy and yet we are still going strong and still hiring people everyweek, it can't be to bad a place they obviously know what they doing during this (what i call the 2nd recession)i have gone shopping at meijer kroger and other places and cant near the food or other things i get at walmart that i can spending the same amount of money at the other places, the other places are way to expensive.

You know I've never talked to a disgruntled WalMart worker here. Everyone I've ever asked and I have asked them enjoy working for WalMart. They just built a new Supercenter here having left the old store vacant for awhile (it's now being filled by Canadian Tire) and where they built their new Supercenter all sorts of new stores have opened up on the same parcel surrounding them. A newe PetSmart, Dollarama, Clothing stores, and about 8 others with more to follow. Believe me there are places begging for WalMart to open a store and others who oppose them vehemently or at least the area they want to build in.

I would hope these cars would come with some kind of a dealer and service network besides just WalMart. Are they gonna fix them too?
