I collect back issues as part of my washing machine collection. I just received an issue that I bought off flea bay.

October 1973
(1) Maytag A207
(2) Frigidaire WCD3T
(3) Whirlpool LXA6700

back issues way too cool.

Isn't that the one with the two baskets of laundry beside the WP and three baskets beside the Maytag showing the difference in capacity and how an equal amount of laundry would take 2 loads in the WP and 3 in the MT? It was the last time CU tested the small tub Maytag. I looked at that and wondered who and how many caught hell for buying that small capacity Maytag. It was so totally outclassed by the larger machines and Maytag had been making the deep tub washers for long enough that someone SHOULD have known to look for the larger capacity machine. It almost seemed like sabotage against the hegemony in ratings that Maytag had held since after the AMP which was downgraded for small capacity (approximately 5 lbs) compared to the larger capacity of other machines.

Neat

I bet that is a cool issue to read.
Having grown up in a large family and knowing the need of a large tub washer, I find as a single guy that I can wash most weekly loads on medium, and thats with the regular sized tub on a Maytag 208. Though often I wash them on large for the extra turn over.
But I have a large tub Maytag that I'm slowly working on, once its done, I'm sure I'll enjoy the extra space when its time to wash blankets and such.

I have gobs of old back issues

I got on Ebay. Kinda neat to read about stuff of the past. Back in the day, they really did a good review of autos, not like now which is akin to taking notes on a cocktail napkin.

Washman, you speak the truth! The current issue of CR is annoying. Something that the masses might want, pressure cooker, gets one page. But if I want to spend $100K for my new car I can read all about it. I've been getting CR for over 50yrs and each issue is more disappointing.

Years ago I went to a book sale that was being held at a closing Library.  To my delight, there was hard bound / backed Consumer Reports (by year) ranging from 1945 - 1995.  It was at the end of the sale and I offered them .10 per book and they gladly accepted.  I enjoyed reading through them very much!  I did however get tired of moving them and finding a place for them.  I put the entire set on Ebay and started the bid at $20.  I was blown away at the final bid!!!  Talk about a job to get them mailed!  The Post Office employee's where I brought the huge boxes to be mailed were not very happy with me.  I think I am the reason that a weight limit was put in place for "Media Mail" service.

However maytagmike

in the washman SQ review, SQ came out on top! :)

FYI I think you mean Raytheon, not BW. BW owned Norge if I recall.

Sorry about that

Hi Washman, I just looked at the Consumers Report Speed Queen was owned by McGraw-Edison then. I think the Norge was rated pretty close to the Speed Queen that's were the mix up occurred. Thanks for the FYI.
