Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

The earliest of the Beam machines

That is a wonderful manual Greg, I was under the impression that the earliest Beam machines had a round lid with a glass window, but maybe not??? Consumer Reports had shown this ad that looked like it was a glass lid, but now that I see this it could have been solid all along.

Franklin and Studebaker

Yes - I have read elsewhere that Franklin was part of Studebaker. The only car company that didn't have a division who made washers at least at some point in time was Chrysler (though they did make great air conditioners and furnaces.)

Not many surprises here for AW readers I am sure:

GM - Frigidaire
Ford - Philco
Chrysler - Airtemp (Mainly A/C)
American Motors - Kelvinator
Studebaker (Packard too?) - Franklin

Stampco Automatic

Hi simpsomatic

A couple of pics of the Stampco for you. I can't tell you the exact history of Stampco, but can tell you the automatics were only on sale from 1963 - 1967 and not distributed in all states of Australia. These machines shared many components with the 'Turner' fully automatics of the time.

A unique feature of these machines are the double inner bowl.....much like the Maytag AMP models.

Cheers
Leon

Back in time

Mayfan69 thanks for the share. I remember seeing this machine with both the Stampco and Turner name. Both machines had a bad reputation for service repairs. Every year Stampco had a booth at the Royal Melbourne Show as did the other washing machine manufacturer's. Working models, very exciting. Question? In your photo what is the machine to the left, looks like another Stampco?

I did not think I had ever seen a "Coronado" until I saw that agitator. I clearly remember that agitator and the way the machine worked-----way back in my childhood. Someone in Georgia must have brought it down from up north. I don't ever remember a place that sold Coronado's in Atlanta. Tom?

Very kool. I love all the Beam machines!

More pics, more pics

Mayfan69, glad you have a contact, how many and what other brands does he have or you have that can tantilize my senses....I vaguely remember the Astor with the fiberglass solid tub. Astor another brand that has long departed, bad service record also. Are any of the Stampco in working order? Please, some videos.........
