Beaumark Rimflo finds a new home

There, finally I have all three of the major manufacturer machines. Maytag, Kenmore (WP) and now GE. Err well, Beaumark. Beaumark was the in house brand for The Bay or The Hudson Bay company in Canada. Beaumarks have a lot of Hotpoint features, and out of all of the designs for control panels by GE, Hotpoint, or any department store brand like Viking, or JC Penny, these machines I think have the most esthetialy pleasing design.

This machine is a MOL machine. Some were offered as suds-saver. The "10 program" version is TOL. Here is the side opening lid money shot with rimflo.

Check out this pump! I've never seen a pump that was bolted together on a GE.

And finally, this is the back. No cardboard or pressboard back. Pure metal. Also looks like the back is "more complete" from the frame as it extends down to the water valves. All in, the machine is on the verge of needing a two speed clutch replacement, and might as well get a new belt. Other than that, some cosmetic things will make this shine.

And if you're wondering what happend to the BD Kenmore? Well, a new basket drive is on its way along with a YouTube rebuild video.

Hey Kevin, congratulations on finding this machine, it looks to be in pretty decent shape.  Neat control panel design too.   I like that it has the ramp vs. the straight-vane agitator, much more fun and better movement too.  Thanks for the info in the Beaumark brand name, I'd never heard of it.

 

The one thing I don't like about the "rim-flo" design is the spray rinse during spin is ineffective (read: useless) and a total waste of water.   It's flows into the rim filter, then out to the outer tub and down the drain while spinning.

Well, there's a little modification you can make with the fresh water spray that will send the spray rinse water into the basket. Kind of a Brit Milah. SOP procedure when acquiring a RimFlo along with tossing the lid switch.

Here is the other half of the panel. Is it normal for GE machines to just spray cold water during the cool down? It probably doesn't do much as what Kevin said is true about the fill flume.

congratulation on your finding if you went to see it wash with the lid open you will need to disable the lid switch, and soon hoping to see a video of this washer going true a full cycle

Nice find, Kevin!   I always thought the Beaumark washers and dryers had the most colourful control panels - I had neighbours who had this very same set when I lived in my first home in the wilds of Ile Perrot.   Funny how the Beaumarks all seem to have some rust around the lid switch - the old Vikings I have owned didn't...  I wonder if the rim-flo might have something to do with that.

Bolted pump

The pump on my 83 GE is bolted together like that. I took it apart to remove a sock that was in it. The person I got it from advertised it as it wouldn't spin. The sock in the pump was the only thing wrong.

Cool looking control panel with interesting layout. Wow...a 24-minute maximum wash cycle. I like that spiral agitator.

Yep, the "spray rinse" on the rim-flo's was really just a "clean the rim-flo filter" cycle. Little, if any, water went into the tub.

probably why they angled those fill flumes to face the outter tub section, even for a regular filter flo....

well, for the filter flo's, I cut/alter the fill flume to direct water onto the load....

Martin, I experimented with it last night a bit. Its a two speed, but the Perma Press selection is normal agitation, slow spin. Where as Normal is normal all around, same with delicate being slow for everything. But interesting to note, the timer overrides whatever you select, so on the delicate cycle, even if you leave it in Normal speed, it will go slow. Same with Perma Press.

The Perma Press cool down is somewhat lame. All it does it drain out the warm wash water and sprays cold water throughout the entire first spin and drain, all the way until it goes in to the first rinse. Again, the timer overrides whatever you select as it does warm wash, cold rinse.

Pierre, I would so buy that machine right now if I lived in BC! There are a few Beaumark and Viking machines closer to me in Nova Scotia that are in Quebec and Ontario that I would like to get.
