Company is coming for dinner, so I decided on a roast.
Also on the menu is:
steamed broccoli
mashed potatoes
yorkshire pudding

Here is the roast as it was about to go in the oven.
I will cook this to a medium.

As Rachael Ray would say, YUMMO!!!

"you absolutely can not make mashed potatoes without one of these... It just ain't right!"

Did you mean the mixer or the glass of wine? I prefer red myself!!! :-)

Chuck

Chuck, either probably! I insist on using an electric mixer for mashed potatotes as well.

Jeff, when you do them in the KA, do you use the whip start to finish, or start with the flat then switch to the whip (which is what I do if I'm using a KA).

Sounds like a fantastic meal! Enjoy!

and now, the reveal! Jeff, take the shots of the prepared meal BEFORE you finish that bottle of wine, ok?

Hey Jeff,

In the 4th pic your caption says that you can't make mashed potatoes without one of these. Do you mean a glass & bottle of white wine??? HAHAHA!!!

glass & wine

Ummmm well...the wine was kinda my undoing last night so to speak.
Michael and I recieved a bottle of wine called "Conundrum" which we finally opened last night.
I loved it, Michael was kinda lukewarm over it. He preferrs a reisling.
Needless to say I just about finished the Conundrum myself BEFORE dinner and was pretty buzzed whilst trying to get stuff to the table.
I got pics of my guests and of the KA mashed taters, but spaced off the roast.
It was a good dinner, but I am feeling it this morning!
Pics to follow shortly, I'm off to cook Michael breakfast.

Kitchenaid Mashed Potatoes

More than once I've said I am a die-hard Sumbeam person, but now after 5 years with the KA I have finally gotten the hang of it.
Mashed potatoes were the biggest challenge, but I think I finally got it where the KA will turn out spuds as good as a Sunbeam will.
I use the whisk from start to finish, and begin by lightly mashing the potatoes first with the whisk by hand, then I attach it to the mixer, drop 1/2 stick of butter in the bowl, and turn the mixer to med-high speed. I also scrape the bowl while its running, using a very narrow rubber spatula. Once everything is a smooth mass I add salt and pepper, then I stop the mmixer and add the milk. Now I crank the speed to high, scrape the bowl and let it beat for 2-3 minutes.
The end result is very tasty!

Very nicely done Jeff!

I love Yellow Tail. Don't know if I've had the Reisling, I'll have to try that.

here it is, my recipie

Yorkshire pudding

preheat oven to 425
spray 2 muffin pans(for 12 puddings) with PAM or other non-stick cooking spray

into your blender container put:

2 eggs
1 cup milk
1 cup AP flour
1/2 teaspoon salt

Blend on medium-high speed til smooth. Pour from jar into muffin pans, filling each 1/2 to 2/3 full.
Bake for 25 minutes or until puffed and golden brown. Serve when hot alongside roast beef

Jeff, Thanks, I shall try this. I have seen it done with making it in the roaster from which the roast as been removed etc. I thought that it looked sort of difficult to do it that way. Gary

very easy

Gary the recipie I have states you bake the yorkshire puddings while the roast stands after coming out of the oven. I usually cook the roast at 325 degrees, so once I take that out of the even I up the temperature and once its preheated in go the puddings.
I'm not always the best at timing, no matter how hard I try I always have something that gets to the table late(usually its the vegatable because I forget to start the microwave) but I can say the 25 minutes these take to bake do give me time to do everything else(make gravy, mash potatoes, carve the roast...) and get everything to the table at one time.
Let us know how they turn out!
