That's the only waffler/grill I've used for many years! And despite the recent reviews, I've made many and I mean many grilled cheese sandwiches on it, as well as too many waffles to imagine! It replaced the 1946 wedding gift my parent's got of a Kenmore waffler/grill. While B & D may have cheapened it up, I'll keep mine! Greg

Top Rated Waffle Maker

Too bad these once fine waffle makers have been cheapened up.

The original GE version of this got top marks from Consumer Reports and was praised for its even browning and consistency.

I currently have three of these waffle irons. They can be found readily on Ebay. Average price is between forty and sixty dollars.

The models numbers are: A1G48T, the original unit and the slightly newer A2G48T.

The "T" in the model number indicates it uses GE's own non-stick coating. It works OK if you make sure it's seasoned well and you use PAM or cooking oil on waffle grid. I am not sure why GE used a "T" for the designator, as it is not truly Teflon, but their imitation of it.

There is the even better and much rarer A2G48S model. It uses the DuPont Silverstone non-stick coating. I find it worlds better for not letting the waffles stick. I just give them a light spritz of PAM before using, and the waffles just pop out. Silverstone has excellent non-stick properties.

The way you can tell the difference is GE's coating is black. The Silverstone is brown.

In looking through Ebay this afternoon, I found many of the "T" models, but only one of the rarer "S" Silverstone model. This was unusual in that usuall there are none of the Silverstone units. Unfortunately, this "S" model is also priced much higher. It is $94.99. Most of the other GE "T" units are running in that 40 to 60 dollar range.

I hope one of you grabs that Silverstone unit before it's gone.[this post was last edited: 12/2/2021-14:44]

RE a Keeper

appnut you are right - a keeper. I have had to reconnect the wires to the plug, replace the cord, replaced the cord between the top and bottom. and might have to replace the heating resistance coils eventually... the top quit heating yesterday and I see the coil broke. Thankfully I found resistance coils on Amazon (Nichrome 80-100' - 26 Gauge Resistance Wire)and am waiting for them to come in
