I just received my new Bodum vacuum coffee maker. The coffee is great and out of this world. But the only thing I don't like it is very fragile glass. The top part should be made of plastic. I hope I don't break it.
Let me see if I can attach some pictures.

Mmmmm. Coffee. I like coffee!

I've yet to have vaccuum coffee, though. How does it compare to other methods?

I always rely on my Bunns for quick, reliable, tasty caffeine-containing hot beverages.

Aaaaaah! you've gone and adulterated it!

Coffee is one of nature's perfect foods. No additives needed.

Mmmm. Coffee.

My grandma has an old blue-stripe Kent vaccuum pot.

If I'm lucky enough to inherit it, I think I'd be terrified to actually use it. Beautiful, but very fragile.

Did the pillar stand for the top part come with the maker, or is that something you improvised? It remids me of Tom Servo from Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Vacuum Pot

I received the pillar stand included with the package.
I used to grind my own coffee but not lately.
I used Chock full of nuts - I would like to go back to grinding my own coffee. It was great coffee however.

Peter,

I have the electric version of the Bodum coffee maker. It is plastic. Had for over two years and it is the best coffee maker we have had. I is a great conversation piece when we have a dinner party, everyone loves to watch it brew. I loved it so much I now bought the Bodum burr grinder. I love the smell of freshly ground 8o'clock beans brewing in the morning. This is the coffee maker I have, but that is my old Pavani grinder, I wore out.

peteski: I have the very same Bodum coffee maker. It makes the most awesome, flavorful coffee superior to drip or perc brewers. IMHO

It is very fragile, and I don't use it every day, just on special occaissions. I know that as clumsy as I am, it will come to it's shattered demise some day, but in the meantime: Ohhhhh the coffee!

Looks like great coffee Pete, Mike do they still make the electric Bodum? And I sure agree with you, you just can't beat the smell of fresh ground 8 O'clock coffee.

Coffee is a pretty subjective drink. When young I only liked perked when dad made it in the old GE pot belly, 8'oclock. Then when I was a starving student it was instant and you get used to it. About that time the first drip machines were coming out, the Mr. Coffee's and Dial a Brews etc. Dad got quite into it and bought a grinder and I bought him a GE drip with the analog clock. Got myself a Melitta electric drip machine and those are the types I've used pretty much since then. I usually grind my own beans from a mix of Columbian and French Roast beans from those dispensers at the grocery store or when we get to Costco we buy the big huge bag of Meridian beans, they're quite good. When I'm feeling special I'll go to the bother of digging out my little Vesuvius espresso maker LOL
BTW here's a link to the ultra cool and expensive Bodum espresso maker
