I’ve been looking for one of these machines for a while now, and I just can’t figure out the differences between the 24” BD and DD washers. If anyone can give some features that would make it easier to tell the difference, that would be great. The mid 80s late BD and early DD are the hardest to differentiate, and for now, I’m looking for the BD version. Again, if anyone could give me some ideas on what to look for, I thank you in advance!

I’ll post a picture from a older post to give some people an idea on what I’m talking about

The easiest way by picture is to either see the opening with the agitator or see the back of the machine. The back of a belt drive will have the service opening while the direct drive will be a solid panel. The agitator in a belt drive will be either a super roto swirl or a gold straight vane like the 29” standard capacity machines had. The belt drive version is probably going to be a lot harder to find than the direct drive but the are neat to have. I only recall seeing one in the many years of service and I brought it home 20 years ago and it still sits in the same spot I’m ashamed to say. Hope you find one.

D.D. lid is almost the same size as the top of the washer. A B.D. will have a smaller lid, with about 4 inches of top in front and on sides that is not lid.

After going through the archives I found that the lid is larger on the direct drive models. The lid on the direct drive models is really close to the raised edge around the top of the machine. On the belt drives there is visibly more space between the lid and the raised edge of the top of the machine. The first 2 are direct drive and the third picture is a belt drive.
