Bowtie impeller Mobile Maid

I am now and will always be looking for a GE bowtie impeller top load dishwasher.

I have not posted in here for some time and am in need of a fix. If anyone has any pic's or stories/info on this fabulous dishwasher I would very much appreciate it. A true fan of GE Mobile maid dishwashers. Thank You

No real stories. I have seen 2 of these pop up on Craigslist in the last year. One in Portland, Oregon and one in Spokane, Washington. That was about 6 months ago. I'll keep my eyes peeled and let you know if one shows up.

Pristine inside, but you really must prerinse with this machine or you'll end up with "yiblets" on everything that water can pool on.

i found one last year

up in toledo ohio for 60 bucks! it had been used at a summer cottage on one of the lake erie islands, i believe put in bay. i brought it home and hooked it up and it runs great and does not leak a drop!

mine cleans fairly well and it sure is fun to use! i just love it when that lid pops open at the end of the wash cycle!

only flaw with mine is it has white racks which i have been told are either replacement racks or possibly the original if it was a later model bow tie machine. in spite of the fact i would prefer pink racks to match the pink tub interior i am not complaining. i just feel so lucky to have stumbled across this machine on craigs list!

view of this wonderful old dishwasher. it is noisy as hell, it just groans when washing and it sounds like there is a tremendous amount of water being thrown around inside!

Our first dishwasher . . .

. . . was a bowtie Mobile Maid. It was a great machine, however we would have to shut the doors and go into another room when it was running. They were very noisy. But it cleaned well. In fact, you could see the whole machine shake while the bowtie was doing its thing.

Then at the end, the lid would pop open and steam would rush out into the kitchen. The heater in the bottom would glow red in the dry cycle.

I remember being able to load quite a few dishes, pots, pans, serving bowls -- it would hold quite a lot.

i was curious as to how much water that bowtie could move! your video took care of that!

it can throw it around! no wonder it's so noisy when in use!

Hadn't seen one of these in years.........

Had and aunt that had this exact machine and I remember seeing in operation at least once but it's been many years ago. Think her dad (my grandfather) found it in a rental house that he obtained - he had a slew of rentals and used to find some interesting things in them from time to time.

The current 'second in command' in the Ogden kitchen is this lovely turquoise Mobile Maid, an SP50W1 that I guess is a 1962 or 63 model. They are a great design - compact and easy to move around.

As Jerry mentioned, they do hold quite a lot, too! If you load 'em well, you can get a TON of dishes, bowls and utensils in one...

Yes, it is. It also has a filter 'collar' for the outflow to the Power Shower in the lid. I just love this machine!!

It's not the best photo but voilà!
The cool thing about it is when the motor is in the 'wash' direction, this collar filters out larger food particles flowing to the power-shower. When the motor reverses to 'drain', the accumulated stuff is sent down the drain. There is even a short water inflow period to flush the pump. Soooo cool!!

You  missed one out in California that was on ebay for a while. If you're willing to pay for the shipping, I'll give you the guys email address and you can see if he still has it. He posted it on ebay several times and lowered the price each time by 10 bucks but I don't think anyone bid on it; he may have dumped it by now. I was tempted, but it wasn't the exact model I'm looking for (it was an SP-40V, from 1961; pink interior but didn't have the maple top, the cup racks or the rinse-glo dispenser {yes, I'm very fussy}). I didn't want to put all that money into the shipping for an "almost" machine. Email me at my profile address and I'll send you his email.
