I was wondering through another thread and came across this video (The Washers We Love and More) that Robert put together.... I have to say I JUST LOVE IT!!! Very well done, nicely put together and great music!!! Thanks for creating it!

Robert, I have a couple questions:
1) at 2 min 34 Sec, the washer shown has a "Frigidaire" type wash action... but much, much faster. What is it?
2) Then immediately following, the machine with the deflating rubber, what is that one??

Thanks Much!!
Kevin

1. Frigidaire Pulsamatic. A belt-driven mechanism that followed the Unimatic. Shorter pulsation but faster. Also slower spin than the Unimatic's 1140 RPM. It was used in lower-end models for a few years, then evolved into the Multimatic mechanism (I think) when market conditions demanded machines with more than one agitation/spin speed.

2. Bendix Economat. The rubber tub did not spin. A vacuum pump drained the water then pulled a vacuum to compress the rubber tub and squeeze the clothes against the agitator for "wringing" them. It was popular in apartment complexes where spinning machines could cause objectionable vibrations. Bendix had a lifetime warranty on the tubs, apparently covering ANY cause of leaking, which caused problems for the company in the long-term -- many cases of a a forgotten pen/pencil/nail or other such object piercing the tub.

You make it so easy! The red and green striped sheets, rolling over in the pink 57 Kenmore are identical to the set in your photograph of your mom's Kenmore over in the Imperial column. I'm glad to see you are a proponent of the Goldilocks school of washer loading, just right!
