Calling Turbokinetic and Combo52! 1962ish GE Spacemaker Refrigerator Issues

I just picked up a (MUCH) rougher than the pictures GE Spacemaker refrigerator, TC469WF. The seller indicated that the evaporator fan motor had failed and required replacing. I wasn’t paying attention and ordered a new condenser fan. (The same repair that we made to the ‘60 GE) This seems to have a different, two fan setup, with one in the freezer and one in the back of the refrigerator. What should I look for, and what part numbers should I be looking for for the other interior fan motors?

Also, the door seems to be sagging one direction and the drawer the other. Any thoughts here?

1961 [ or there about ] GE Frost Guard refrigerator

Hi Wesley, this is probably the first of these great GE refs, these newer design refs one evaporator in the back of the freezer and were hot gas defrost, they were built from around 1961 till around 1970 in the 34" and 30 1/2" width models.

 

There are two thermostats in these refs, the one in the top controls the fan behind the R crisper drawer, it turns on this fan whenever the compressor is running and the top section needs cooling.

 

The evaporator fan in the back of the freezer runs whenever the compressor is running and the freezer drawer is closed [ exception neither fan runs when the compressor runs for defrost ]

 

The big possible problem with these refs were compressors that wore out early, plug it in to test, if the freezer evaporator fan and condenser fans runs the freezer should easily reach 0F and only run about 1/2 the time to maintain this temperature [ or if the freezer thermostat is faulty and won't shut the compressor the freezer should go below -10F easily ]

 

Remove the rear compressor cover and see if there is evidence of the compressor having already been replaced at least 1/2 or more have already been replaced, you may see a. red GE parts tag attached to tubing that says a new Hi-Side has been installed.

 

If the compressor and sealed refrigeration system can't pass this test you have a BIG project on your hands, other wise most problems are still quite fixable, let us know what you find.
